  Great pool area

  This was a very interesting stay. First of all, Montegrotto Terme is a typical traditional spa resort, which also can be seen on the visitors in the town and at the hotel. We were all our thirties, but by far the youngest at the hotel. The pool area was great, the service impeccable and the rooms very nice (but a little bit dated). The lovely town of Padova is a short train ride away, and in all a better alternative than staying in Montegrotto Terme. But don't expect a great nightlife at the hotel nor the town of Montegrotto Terme.

  Serendipity!!!

  We were in need of a hotel for one night once we realized we could not make the drive all the way form Budapest to Siena. Our GPS directed us to Montegrotto and we were lucky to be able to stay in this lovely hotel. Every detail to offer a comfortable and superior stay was thought of.Our room was spacious with an old-world elegance. Everything was immaculate with fine linens and amenities. Bathrobes and large towels for the pool were provided.Wi-Fi was free and worked well. Because we arrived quite late after a very long drive,we did not have dinner in the hotel but the lobby was elegant and inviting. The ONLY T-V with an English language movie on our three week trip ( we watched Ghost) was at this hotel...a unexpected surprise. Next morning the included breakfast was very satisfactory with an excellent waitstaff and fine choices. We asked if a late check-out was possible and were delighted that we were able to stay until 2p.m! I think we would have been able to stay even later but we needed to drive on. We were allowed to use the hotel bicycles and took a beautiful ride into the town and then further on into the countryside. The dedicated bike path was very safe but care needed to be taken riding through the tunnel! We then had use of the stunning and sparkling pool! Lounge chairs with umbrellas were plentiful and waiters came by to take orders . We had ice cream sundaes of course. The estate-like grounds are magnificent....manicured, lush and peaceful. Parking is directly on the property and the hotel has a lift. The staff was excellent...especially a gentleman ( sorry I do not have a name) who was so helpful and generous in offering us use of this property. We are only sorry that our stay was so short! We truly had a mini-vacation staying here and look forward returning for a longer visit. I

  Great hotel and fantastic service

  I wanted to visit Venice without staying in the city. The train station is a 5 minute walk away .The hotel staff was friendly and very attentive. The restaurants served delicious meals. Pool area was excellent! A great place to stay with . Hotel is not new, but is excellently maintained and very clean.

  A long weekend away

  While we know Montegrotto Terme well this was our first visit to Hotel Des Bains. Being the beginning of June everything was very quiet, which was fine for us. The hotel is set in very large grounds with many pine trees and a large park area, which makes it ideal for a get-away location. If you arrive by car, as we did, the hotel offers plenty of parking space. If you prefer to use the train it is within reasonable walking distance of the rail station. Our room was quite spacious and kept very clean. My only criticism was that the bed mattress was very firm. Now I'll take an orthopaedic mattress over a soft one any day but for my liking this was a little too firm. Ideal for anyone with back problems, though. Breakfast was more than adequate with a reasonably wide choice. We had bed and breakfast terms so I cannot comment on lunch and evening meal quality. Suffice it to say though that if you have half- or full board there are set menus which vary every day with a choice of food. As is common in the area all drinks are charged separately. The thermal pool is very good indeed. It is partly internal but largely external. The external part is large enough for you to swim if there are not too many guests there. The hotel bar serves drinks pool side, which is nice. The hotel provides towels for poolside use free of charge whereas bath robes carry an extra charge - 10 EUR for the duration of your stay. Swimming caps are obligatory, by the way. It is just worth noting that if you wish you can settle the bar bill at the end of your stay but the bar account is kept separate from that of the hotel. Paying for room and bar charges on the same account is not allowed. To conclude, did we enjoy the stay? Yes. Would we go again? Yes.
