Interesting place to stayWe stayed in the top floor, which seemed to be where they put the family's with kids. We had heard this place used to be a hospital of some kind, and it is reflected in the architecture. The floor we stayed in had shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. My mother was shocked to hear that the toilets and showers were not split by gender. I found the beds to be too soft. The shared space on the first floor was comfortable. There is a large lounge space and it's comfortable to sit and watch TV (if everyone agrees on what's on anyway!). On the ground floor there's also recreational room with a pool table and some puzzles.

Excellent room security and free full size pool tableThis used to some sort of hospital and judging by the solid doors and multiple locking systems might have been for psychiatric patients. The floors were tiled which was excellent for me because I was there on a business trip and my clothes and boots were dirty everyday. The bathroom was shared which again I didn't mind, but perhaps not everyone's cup of tea. The TV in my room didn't work very well and the single bed was only just long enough, but nonetheless comfortable. I bet the family rooms are nothing like mine. My female colleagues had en-suites including shower spas, so there's clearly lots of variation. The breakfast was excellent and the free full size pool table was a blast.

Fawlty Towers in New NorfolkFor a start just forget the name of this being a "Resort". Far from it. I like the idea of the venue being a former nurses quarters in the what used to be appallingly referred to as a mental asylum. New Norfolk used to be known for extensive mental health facilities. Let me first say a few positive things before I say the rest. Some many has been spent on updating the bathroom in my room and the attached kitchen area was also modern. I know from my colleagues the other rooms are nothing like the one I got especially those which do not come with a bathroom. Now for my experience. The staff seem unable to maintain accurate booking records and handed out a room key to my colleague which was not even one from any room in the so called resort. The staff arbitrarily changed the room allocations of my colleagues making them shared rooms contrary to the booking. Just bizarre. It was curious to be told the room is on the fourth floor, however select floor three on the lift. The was no aircon, which I understand however it was impossible to open the windows beyond a couple of centimeters. The room was very stuffy. The supplied fan (heater if is cold) could not be used because there wasn't a power point useable anywhere near the bed. The lack of wardrobe in the room made it impossible to store and hang business clothing. I could say more such as the terrible bed. I have however I had enough of this place. Find anywhere else in New Norfolk. I wonder if Basil Fawlty (John Cleese) ever visited this "Resort".

KelThis was the most disappointing place we stayed our whole Tassie visit. The place felt like a prison. It was stuffy with stale air. The shower was something out of some kind of si fi. And the bed was crap. Do not recommend this place to anyone.

Recently taken over by new ownerWe visited here in March, found it by chance as several others in this small town were closed. We were in Tasmania from the UK The room we had on the ground floor was clean tidy with a small area useful for take away food. The new owner was really helpful and keen to make a go of the motel. It was a former nurses residence we were told. It is a no frills place and certainly acceptable for our overnight stay on our way to Hobart. There is also a good food restaurant ina nearby hotel, ask the owner as he eats there.
