  Excellent place to stay on Tegernsee

  This place is just perfect in every single detail: nice and comfy rooms with awesome views of the lake and the surrounding mountains, delicious breakfast, friendly staff, nice decoration alpine style, good sauna area, complimentary coffee all day long, well kept garden... I definitely would come back!

  Did a walk by drive by

  Having read the bad reviews we decided to have a walk around and see if it was ok . Compared to the Tegernsee lower down the slope we honestly thought it looked tired and in need of some love . To be fair we did not stay or sample the food etc but staff were inattentive and not once were we asked if we wanted anything . These hotels high up overlooking the lake are pricey and dont get the best reviews .

  Great Views

  This is an attractive hotel set in nice gardens in a high position over Tegernsee. Our room had a private balcony with a tremendous view. The room was fitted and maintained to a good standard. The public areas were also well furnished and in good order. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is no restaurant on site but the hotel runs a minibus to an associated restaurant in town which was high quality, with prices to match. Good breakfast, free afternoon cake and coffee.You can walk to the town using the Treppenweg, but there are a lot of Treppen! There seemed to be surprisingly few other dining establishments in the town, considering its a tourist destination. There are lots of excellent hiking trails in the area, including direct from the hotel.

  Top view over the lake

  Top view over the lake. The hotel offers an excellent breakfast ( on Sunday it's even richer, incl. Brezel and Weisswurst), which was included in the rate. All day long complimentary tea or coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful. Car recommended as hotel is up the hill. Hotel offers also a free shuttle from/to Tegernsee, or you can hike up about 20 minutes. Please note, that the Westernhof is a hotel garni, that means they have no restaurant for lunch of dinner up there, but they offer an excellent restaurant at Tegernsee ( use the free shuttle). You can also order a "Brotzeit" ahead, if you would like to eat something up in the hotel.

  Lovely hotel, friendly staff, terrific views

  We stayed early September 2020 (during the pandemic) and were made to feel very safe. The hotel had made good plans for the breakfast room to ensure everyone was protected, and kept away from each other. The breakfast selection was great. The hotel is up a large hill, so either have a car, or use an e-bike (can be arranged at the hotel), as they are not offering their shuttle service at the moment. There is a footway (treppenweg) from Tegernsee town, which avoids walking a long way round up the road, look for the yellow signs. We stayed in the Berghaus (which is the self-catering building) although our room rate included breakfast, and had a lovely 1 bed apartment, with comfortable bed, with balcony. The shower was a little tired, and not thermostat controlled so the temperature went up and down a little, but we coped. It had a well fitted out kitchen (though we didn't use it), and hotel provided bottled water each day. All the staff were extremely friendly, and helpful (even with my shameful lack of speaking German). We'll stay here again if in the area.
