HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - REPORTED TO ODH FOR COVID-19 NONCOMPLIANCE - Lies About Safety/Cleanliness/Extra MeasuresThis is a long review, the overall point being, if you value your family's safety, DO NOT bring them to this lodge any time soon. I absolutely don't believe any recent positive review. I am a frontline healthcare worker who has seen the effects of COVID-19, knows about major recent spikes in Ohio, and takes the safety of the general public very seriously. My husband and I had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience at this lodge over the weekend. Before being comfortable booking such a large hotel, I read all of the tips on the website about extra measures being taken during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep guests safe. I was satisfied with the measures explained and optimistic that we could enjoy a comfortable, safe trip. The second we walked in it was clear that literally NONE of the safety measures explained on the Ohio State Park website were being taken, short of hand sanitizer stations here and there. Out of hundreds of guests, my husband and I were the only people I saw using sanitizer stations or masks in OVER-CROWDED common areas, but that was the least of our worries. We attempted to have lunch in the lodge restaurant. The hostess' mask was pulled down under chin, waiters would stop at multiple tables, touching things and then proceed to the next table, touching people's plates, cups, etc. There was NO social distancing within the restaurant (backs of chairs with guests inches away from back of other guests), people were coughing within inches of people at the next table, etc., etc. After seeing the complete lack of sanitation concern and regard for safe practices, public health, or social distancing, we were so uncomfortable we stood up and left. We instead ordered a pizza from the bar to pick up 30 mins later. When we came back for our pizza we watched the bartenders/kitchen staff with their masks completely pulled down, exchanging money and credit cards with guest after guest, making drinks, handing out food, dripping sweat, with no handwashing/sanitizing in between, no masks worn properly, no regard for public safety whatsoever. The same woman who had been doing all of these things handed us our pizza quickly, swiped our credit card, and continued helping other guests. We were absolutely DISGUSTED and did not feel comfortable eating our pizza at all. We decided the only safe place would have to be our room, but we were wrong again. Our room was FILTHY. By regular hotel standards, let alone $200 per night standards during a worldwide, highly contagious airborne virus pandemic, the room was disgusting. Surfaces were dirty and covered with dust, a bra was under our dresser, and a recent guests TOOTHBRUSH was on the ground beside the bathroom vanity...nothing was even close to sanitary!! We were uncomfortable in our own room!!!! When we checked in they gave us wristbands that showed we had signed up for a pool time slot I guess (time slots for "social distancing", which sounded great on the website.) In reality the indoor pool, for example, was absolutely packed. NO ONE was checking for wristbands, counting guests in the pool area, or enforcing any of these "rules" whatsoever. We couldn't go to the pool. We couldn't eat at the restaurant. We couldn't spend time in the bar. We couldn't be comfortable in our room. We couldn't even feel safe eating the crappy bar pizza we resorted to! Finally we reached our breaking point and went to the front desk to voice our very real, very valid concerns. The "manager" was brought over and I was left SPEECHLESS by her reaction to what I told her was going on in the kitchen/restaurant/bar. She was VERY RUDE and dismissive to my concerns. I approached her respectfully and calmly and she only argued and minimized my observations. I was stunned when she hilariously argued that the guests at adjacent tables in the restaurant were 6 feet apart! They ABSOLUTELY were not, which was incredibly obvious. Some were hardly 6 inches apart, but rather than admitting this she was defiantly repeating that they "measured". When told about the kitchen/bar staff handling many guests credit cards/money from multiple people, then making drinks, then making food for other people, all while sweating WITH NO MASK ON, she shrugged and said she'd "remind them". No apology. No acknowledgment of recklessness. Nothing. THIS IS THEIR MANAGER! NO WONDER THEY'RE NON-COMPLIANT WITH OHIO STATE PARKS AND THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH! She tried to pass me onto someone else and upon realizing that person was no longer there, passed me on to the sweet but 17-year-old-looking front desk attendant who looked like a deer in headlights. She told me I could fill out a complaint card. I stood nearby for 10 minutes as she searched for one. I finally told her to just call me at my room when she found it. Deer Creek Lodge has been reported for unsafe/unhygienic practices to Ohio State Parks and the Ohio Department of Health. DO NOT take your family there. It is places like this that will cause our state to shut down again if they don't get their act together.

Nice, but not so Nice GetawayWe wanted to get away for a few days with all that is going on in the world right now with COVID-19. We stayed at the Harding Cabin. The cabin itself is okay. When I booked this cabin I was not told that it is 10 minutes away from the main lodge and that the cabin is in the middle of a boat ramp and parking lot for the boaters. We heard people either talking or moving their boat around all hours of the night. The boat ramp does not close at all. It is a free for all down there. There is also a set of stairs behind the cabin that lead to a small boat dock that locals love to use to fish. They really don't care that you are staying at the cabin. I tried to call the lodge to see if this was allowed and no one answered the phone. We had to drive up and ask. I was told they are busy and could not get to the phone when I called. They would look into the locals fishing. Maintenance will not take care of it, so they called the State Park Ranger, which we never did see a one in the 3 days we were there. The cabin is very big and the kitchen and bathroom have been redone. There is 1 twin bed in 2 different rooms. They are not in 1 room. There is 2 queen beds in one room that can be divided if need be. The upstairs where the bedrooms are could use some TLC and cleaning behind the beds. My husband and son fixed the porch screen so the raccoon would stop coming in at night. We saw his foot prints on the chair after I cleaned off the first set. I was told to email the General Manager, Bill with my concerns and have never heard back. Over all we had a nice time, however I do not know if we would go back to the Harding Cabin. The Main Lodge was very nice. We did get a discount on the 3 nights for all of the mishaps that took place thanks to Zenia. She was very understanding and good at her job.

Stay far awayGM Bill has no accountability and makes excuses for poor management. Used COVID as excuse for staff no-shows. Sales staff promised event and didn't deliver. If you want to make it a horrible day at Deer Creek then this is the place. 70's style rooms over priced. Best thing about Deer Creek was leaving . Do Not book conference or meeting.

Extremely Disappointing Run Down RoomDecided to spend a long weekend at the lodge. Was extremely disappointed in the room - and even more so for the price paid. We've stayed at much nicer places at this price range. Toilet would only flush if you held the handle down almost entire flush cycle. Single lever bathroom faucet as well as off position would constantly change. Sometimes cold to left, sometimes up, sometimes to right. I'm not making this up folks- was totally ridiculous! Room floor had obviously not been swept. Bed mattress sagged poorly - obviously very old. Facility overall just rundown and needs a major remodel. Outside the lake was nice to look at. Walking paths provided something to do. They were primarily worn down grass, not like hiking paths elsewhere. But again workable. A couple of things if you decide to ignore the negative reviews and stay here. There is no place in the area to eat (with exception of lodge which was over priced with limited selection). We drove to Washington Court House to eat a couple of times. Also went to Jeffersonville Tanger outlets for something to do and ate nearby there at Werners. You could try to take a little bit of food, but the typical small refrigerator in room. No microwave (and too bad because for once we remembered to take popcorn but couldn't use due to ko microwave. We reserved a woods/lake view room. The room we stayed in was stretching that description. We mainly had a view of playground. If you do pay for this category of room, make sure you are on second floor, otherwise your views are often blocked at lower level. Maintenance man was very nice and friendly. Also another worker we passed in the hallway was friendly. Front desk staff were so-so. Weren't bad, just not overly friendly for a place where first impressions set the stage of visit. King Guest room had a single straight back desk chair to sit at. So if 2 people in a room, one had to sit on bed. Again just ridiculous for this price of room. We considered going back home the second day but figured we would have difficulty canceling early. Wish we would have paid more attention to the low rating reviews for this property. We will NOT stay at this property again unless they remodel the facility. Even then, plan on driving around 25-30 minutes to find something to eat in Washington Court House. Not really a long drive, but was just surprised that there wasn't really anything in the area. Fortunately we did spend a little time outside on the property walking around. But overall was a disappointing experience for what was planned to be a good few days away.

Wonderful ExperienceOur Church had close to 30 ppl staying at the Lodge for a weekend retreat. Stephanie had everything set up for us when we arrived, including our meeting room, our lodge rooms, and all of the meals that we were having over the weekend. The service we received was exceptional and the food was great as well. This is the second time we have stayed at the lodge and we are looking forward to the next time we can visit.
