  Lovely grounds

  The grounds are really lovely. The room are very clean with nice touches such as flowers. The hotel is quite secluded and private which is nice although it is necessary to get a three wheeler to the beach. The staff were helpful. The food was overpriced but excellent (if you say you want it hot it will be VERY hot). Recommended.

  Great place, great service!

  A small, quiet retreat with kind and helpful staff. We spent 6 days at Dedduwa and loved every minute of it. The rooms are simple and clean with everything you need. We spent a lot of time sitting on the room terrace drinking tea and reading. The staff were so helpful - breakfast, lunch and dinner were great with the chef happy to make whatever you would like or surprise you. The manager organized outings and drivers and made suggestions as to what's good in the local area. The butler, Upul, was always on hand for whatever you needed. A really fabulous place that I would go back to.

  Low pricing. For those who want to disconnect from the pings and USB devices.

  Dedduwa Boathouse based in Bentota is a hide away retreat located 10 minutes drive from Bentota town. Though the property doesn't have a pool or beach front, its more of a place to disconnect from your iphone/android devices and get busy with a book or 2. The food is very basis and so are the rooms. The property isnt luxurious and modern, but its got its own tranquil nature and at usd 30/room on BB basis its worth checking out.

  Ideal if you want simplicity

  Tucked away from the main Bentota road, this little hotel (which is also the berth for the actual Boathouse on the Lake) has a lot to commend it. Quiet, peaceful and uncomplicated. Our room was a reasonable size, had aircon, fan and mosquito net for the bed - a sensible idea being so close to the lake and the broad ditch running immediately behind the property. En suite shower room could do with a bit of a facelift, but did the job. Bedlinen and towels were clean, though bath mat was badly frayed. No room safe and the door onto the little verandah wouldn't have taken much forcing, so need to be careful of valuables. There was a constant stream of men passing back and forth along the lane behind the property and bordering the lake. Some carried fishing rods, which seemed logical, but when we went for a stroll we came across a toddy trading setup, which had more to do with the traffic than fishing would. To be fair, the guys weren't intimidating in any way - perhaps a bit wary, and were quick to offer us some toddy to try or buy - which we politely declined! Meals, other than breakfast, are by arrangement and on our first night the chef kindly organised us a local style veg curry with various sambals and red rice, which was excellent. Were asked to choose what we wanted for breakfast, and it was provided by the helpful staff. Main reason for choosing to stay here was a planned visit to Lunuganga, which is very nearby, and we didn't want to be in the main drag of Bentota. It was nice to be able to sit outside and watch the world go by, read, observe the wildlife - but don't leave cases open in your room or you may end up with a little gecko joining your travels! So if you want peace and quiet, at very reasonable rates, and don't mind doing without all the bells and whistles of resort/high end hotels, this is a good place to come.

  The only Boathouse in Sri Lanka

  It is easy to drive to the boathouse. The boathouse built with indigenous materials is comfortable and well designed. The view from the cabin and rooftop is breathtaking. They drive the boat once either in the morning or in the evening. It is a great experience. There are fishing rods available. The food is basic.
