    Unprofessional

Central location, though beggars and hawkers completely dominate the area so beware if you choose an outdoor table at breakfast. The building has a nice colonial feel, though it's a bit tired. The room was fine but sheets smelt like smoke. We found the wifi connection very poor compared with other hotels we stayed at in Tana. One young guy on the counter was helpful, the others were rude and gave us unreliable information. One tried to insist that we pay three times the standard rate for a taxi (presumably to get her cut, so we organised our own taxi) while another advised us that the only good restaurant in the area was the one at the hotel, which we found mediocre at best. On one occasion, the waitress decided not to return our change to us despite holding it in her hand at our table which we found very strange! We discovered some great restaurants closeby and avoided the hotel restaurant from then onwards. We also had one of the housekeeping staff ask us for money or a souvenir (clothes) during our stay. Some staff were running their own money exchange business, others their own laundry business. The hotel seems to be a shell with lots of money-making schemes operated by the staff themselves taking place inside. It felt like we were living an episode of faulty towers - we found the reviews too generous based on our experience.

    Central to Antanarivo main street

If you are lucky enough to get a rear room, you might sleep better than one at the front of the hotel. In the morning the cleaners gathered outside one of our rooms, chatting loudly from before 7am, so no chance of a lie-in!! Breakfast seems to be attached to the hotel but isn't, this is extra. We stayed at the beginning of August 2016, price was 30 euros per night irrespective of single or double. This was at one time a good hotel, but is now tired and worn.

Well sited and not too pricey

Room clean and quiet, but aircon pretty dire, the room kind of well used but bearable. The cafe downstairs is quite good, service quick and staff speak a fair bit of English as well, and it's sited right on the main avenue inTana not far from the spectacular station

    Quite Good

Not too expensive hotel, with good accommodation and good food around, the market place is very near from the hotel. Lots of individual merchant will approach you as you get out for some visiting. You need a guide for sure and do not walk alone, poor security zone at night.

    Douce

Hotel de France is quite an average hotel, located in the centre of Antananarivo. Perfect for just a night in the town, including a good breakfast. Nothing fancy, small beds, small bathroom. Staff is helpful. No elevator. Don't go out at night.
