  Nice "vintage style" grand hotel

  Very nice "vintage style" hotel with lots of rooms. Our room even had a fake open fire place which adds nicely to the style. Location is in the center of Groningen at the Great Market. When leaving the hotel you just walk 10 meters to the next bar or restaurant... Parking is always a problem in Groningen, because it is the city of bicycles. We parked 5 minutes foot walk away north (address Bloemsingel 10) for a daily rate of 10 Euro which is absolutely low here. Normal are 20 Euros or more. More than 25% of the residents are students here which show up in the flair and life of the city. Very nice and helpful staff. Good value for the money. The hotel has no parking lot, but can be recommended anyway!

  Welcoming hotel with large rooms and great modern bathrooms!

  We had a three night stay over the Easter weekend. Our standard twin room was spacious compared to all others wed had in the Netherlands, and the bathroom was large and modern with a great shower plus bath. Breakfast was good, with a nice variety of food. 24/7 tea and coffee making facilities downstairs were a nice touch. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would stay there again.

  A local hotel in a central location.A boutique historical hotel(1798).has 24 hr front desk & Free WiFi.Rooms are large & comfortable with tv/desk/chair.Bathroom is modern with walk in shower .Breakfast served daily in library/lounge with choice of hot option.Staff are friendly & Helpful.Dinner can be ordered in Lounge & Service is provided by restaurant next door as same ownership.

  Wonderful staff, great location, authentic Dutch inn plus GREAT breakfast!

  Really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel de Doelen. The welcome was great and the front desk staff are super. They were very welcoming and so helpful in suggesting things to do in the city. The hotel is right on the main square and close to a wide variety of pubs and restaurants offering an array of choices. Walking around the center is a treat and walking along the canals is really pleasant. A really nice touch was the complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies that were available throughout the day and evening. Our room was pretty small and the view was of rooftops but is was sparkling clean, had large windows to open for fresh air, and was actually very comfortable. The breakfast was superb. The only drawback to me would be that parking was about 4 blocks away in a car park, but that is a minor hassle considering how nice the place was to stay. Be happy to go back and stay there any time!

  In need of some TLC

  A centrally located hotel but that needs a make-over. I arrived on a day when it was about 24 degrees and my room facing the square and above the terrace of the drie gezusters was boiling hot. Apparently only one room in the building has airco. As it was too warm and I could not open a window because of the noise coming from the bar downstairs I asked for another room for the next night which I was given. This was quiter but still very warm so no need for a duvet. As these rooms easily get warm they should provide sheets. The mattresses in both rooms were in need of replacement. Although one could get free coffee and tea from the lobby a kettle and tea and coffee in the room would have been nice especially if one is on the top floor. Breakfast offered a good assortment. WiFi strength varied by room. Bathrooms have had an overhaul but the hairdryers are in need of replacement by something more modern and user friendly. The decor of the rooms too could do with a make over, in sum, conveniently located but not a great place to stay during warm weather
