Not a 4-star hotelStayed for a total of about 14 nights in the period stretching from late May to mid June 2016 for a Chinese training seminar. Although the hotel belongs to an international chain in Days Inn International, be aware that Fuzhou remains a distinctly Chinese city (having spent two full weeks in the city, I saw just a handful of Westerns) and the hotel welcomes an almost exclusively Chinese clientele. Hence it does not cater to Western tastes. This is quite evident in the meal offering, particularly breakfast. Youd better enjoy your noodles J From what I heard locally the hotel belongs to or used to belong to the Chinese State in some way. The hotel is not exactly central, but it is located on one of the major access avenues to Fuzhou, and very close to the Olympic stadium where the locals head to dance and play sports in the evening. There is an enjoyable cafeteria about 80 metres from the hotel, to the left as you exit the building. Employees here are mostly quite young. They seemed to work very long hours, perhaps double shifts. Communication, if you cannot speak Chinese, can be tough. Although the young Chinese are now starting to speak English, their accent and overall command of the language are quite poor and make communication a troubled affair. Instant translation tools on your or their smartphone are your best friend if communication efforts go foul. In-room Wi-fi doesnt work properly, although it does in the meeting rooms. The rooms are modern and clean probably the best feature of the hotel. Overall cleanliness the common areas leaves plenty of room for improvement, though. Carpets and sofas are stained and dirty. A particularly despicable evening practice was to distribute call girls cards every evening beneath the room doors at least to our group of Westerners. If youre bound to go for tourism, Xihu Park is a nice place to be and the adjacent Fuzhou Museum is worth a visit too, as is, of course, the Panda Center (about 3km from the hotel) - not to be missed. But overall Fuzhou is certainly not a tourist destination. Be aware also that is very humid and 30 degrees Celsius can feel like a hellish temperature. In short, definitely not a 4 star hotel by Western standards dont be misled by the apparent hotel rating in booking websites.
