  A work in progress

  The Darlot Motor Inn street sign declares "Arrive as a Guest. Leave as a Friend". We stayed 3 nights and had the opportunity to meet the family couple who run the Inn. They have taken on a big task. The building is 30 plus years old and in need of major upgrade. Its age is obvious inside the rooms, the exterior and grounds. Attempts are being made to maintain rather than fully upgrade the rooms and building. Roofing repairs were being done during our stay. Inside rooms new carpet, kitchen cabinet shelving and bed covers sadly don't overcome the uncomfortable low cost tub chairs, poor quality bed/mattress and old style shower alcove with plastic curtain. Removal of internal fittings have left their imprint on the walls and need painting. That said the basics were all there. Tea & coffee supplies, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. Crockery & cutlery sufficient for two people ( it was a double bed room). An in-wall old style reverse cycle air conditioner provided comfort but is noisy. The bed had electric blankets. The owners quickly met our requests when made for additional supplies and were friendly. A cigarette smoke smell in the main office is off putting. This motor Inn is within walking distance of Toy's Garden Chinese Restaurant. We ate there and the food was fresh and delicious. It is close to the city centre, about 2.5kms. The Darlot Motor Inn is a 'work in progress '. The tariff is at the lower end of Motor Inn charges and the old adage is therefore appropriate. You get what you pay for.

  I would have rather slept in the car.

  Room 15 does not look like the photos !! For a start the basin is cracked , the sofa was in shreads & you could not sit on it . The walls are paper thin & the guy next store couldn't put a sentence together without the "F" word. People went through the pool gate slamming it & stood outside our room talking till 11.30PM . This is not what you want when you have been driving all day! They must get their friends to do the reviews that's all I can say!

  Filthy bedding.

  Sadly on an overnight stay here we were greeted with very grubby ,filthy doona covers. The rest of the room was quite clean, we went to the shops and bought bed covers. Couldnt snuggle under those covers with stains and dirty finger prints. The sheets/linen were lovely and clean and fresh,. So the bed covers really let everything else down. I think clean bedding is expected for paying guests. Wouldnt recommend for this reason.

  Great affordable accommodation

  Lets start with the friendly hosts who were there late, waiting for us. Very helpful with everything. The rooms arent five star but for the price they are great and clean. A great affordable accommodation option

  Good for an overnight stay.

  Stopped here overnight on our way to Adelaide from Melbourne. An older motel about 1 km from the downtown area and reasonably quiet. The room was functional with the usual tea and coffee facilities plus fridge, microwave and toaster. They also provided plates and cutlery for those who have their own food to prepare. The wifi was fine although you need to ask for the password when checking in as it's not listed in the room. The TV has several Foxtel channels. The beds were fine, a little firmer than most but that's a personal preference. All in all a reasonable place to stay.
