Comfortable business hotel & close to shoppingThe Daiwa Roynet Matsuyama checks all the boxes for a business hotel with a good location. Check in was easy and they have 3 automated check-out stations, where you can insert your key card, make any final payments and be able to leave quickly. The lobby and lounge area on level 2 are very spacious. The room was comfortable and very clean, and one advantage of the bathroom layout was that the sink, WC and bath area are separated by a door, so that 2 persons can use the bathroom at the same time (although it is a transparent glass door). There are many options for shopping and food near to the hotel, the best probably being Okaido shopping street about 80 m from the hotel entrance, on the opposite side of the road. If you are driving to the hotel, be warned that there are tram lines running on the main road in front of the hotel, and it is not possible to U-turn over the tram lines even at traffic junctions. The GPS unit 'arrived' us on the opposite side of the road and it took us a while and many turns to get on the right side. The hotel parking is at the rear of the hotel, using a car elevator which is quite common in Japan. Breakfast was on the ground floor, which had both Western and Japanese choices. The spread was reasonable. The place runs as an Italian restaurant for lunch and dinner. We managed to get a large table in one corner as we were a big group, but the main part of the restaurant was a little crowded. The coffee was quite good.

Modern clean Japanese hotelThis hotel was very nice. We were a bit apprehensive about the parking as were not familiar with a car elevator - but the car assistant was very nice and explained everything. Checking in was easy and reception very pleasant. Our room was spotless with a lovely view over the city. What blew us away was the bathroom- the shower / bathroom was a revelation- how do we get this in our bathroom at home. The room was roomy and the hotel in a good location. Breakfast was a mix of Japanese and westerner- just right. And the hotel was cheap which we could not believe. Stay here it is a gem!

Amazingly good hotel in Matsuyama downtownThere is really nothing to complain about this hotel. Everything is just so perfect and desirable. The location is pretty close to Okaido tram station, about 2 minutes walk, and thus it's so easy to access the Okaido and visit numerous shops and restaurants. The room is very clean and tidy and all the in-room facilities including bed are extremely clean and new. The bathroom is also spacious and it's not like the usual Japanese style en-suite one which is often quite small. The check-in and check-out processes are smooth and easy to achieve by using a kiosk to save lots of waiting time and prevent potential language barriers. The hotel itself also offers a green option for you to get yourself a bottle of complimentary water if you choose to skip a day of housekeeping. Service staffs are friendly and polite, and they will do everything they can to resolve your problem and make your stay much enjoyable. The price for a room is quite reasonable and affordable, and it provides quite better accommodation quality than some hotels in other areas under the same room rate. There are so many branches of Daiwa Roynet hotels across Japan, and for myself I will definitely stay with them again in other places.

Great location clean room but needs beef up reallyLocation is perfect right next to okaido and its close to shopping and night life and restaurants. Bathroom is huge and superb nice. Staffs are generally professional. UGGLA is a great Italian restaurant nearby - the owner truly understand wine. Public onsen would be a big plus. Im not very impressed with breakfast - would probably skip and go to 7-11 next time. Since theyve a big bathroom, room is petite more good for one person. We have not much space to put our large luggage. Also dont know why I never got upper floor rooms in Shiguku. Im a lifetime gold with Star Alliance and Marriott and a booking.com Genius - I always get preferential treatment. It kinda bother me they always put me at lowest floor. All in, Ill probably go to Dormy Inn next time, similarly priced but nice onsen. Def go with bigger room with 23sqm plus for those who're more used to bigger room. Breakfast is nicer.

Uncomfortable BedsThis hotel has a lot going for it- its in a fantastic location for exploring Matsuyama, plenty of parking, and its very clean. The hotel had robust COVID-19 mitigation tactics in place too. You really did feel like they were doing everything possible for people to travel safely during this time. However, I cant get over how uncomfortable the bed was. My husband and I both slept terribly during our stay. The pillows were also basically flat and non supportive. We stayed in an economy double room, because it was the only non-smoking room available when I booked. I dont know if the beds are better in the deluxe rooms, but I probably wouldnt stay at a Daiwa Roynet again because they were so terrible. If you book through booking.com, you can get the Go To campaign discount. The hotel staff were also helpful in setting up the Go To vouchers on my phone, since the website is entirely in Japanese.
