An experience of Taisho period JapanI arrived early, around noon, and was told that check-in was only possible if I would pay extras (they held to me a calculator and computed to the hour). The inn was sprawling with a very nice stroll garden. The room I stayed at was in the Taisho wing, highly recommend for the generous room space and tasteful decoration. There were only indoor baths, and the main bath (men) had a very unique stubbly bath floor so you could glide over to massage your whole body. Dinner and breakfast were served in the room, both excellent. Free coffee and tea were available in lounges scattered over the building complex. Very little English spoken among the staff. You don't require a taxi to get here from the JR Futsukaichi station. It took me about 20min by brisk walking. A short walk further to the Murasaki station for the train to Dazaifu.

What an amazing experience!I stayed here in October 2016 for 3 nights with business friends. The place was just amazing - it's like you're transported to 19th century Japan! The food was great, all traditional and freshly prepared. The way to your room it just a little bit confusing and it takes some time to get used to but it's ok. The room was a mix of traditional and modern convenient - tatami floors and walls but complete with all necessities for a comfortable stay. The onsen was relaxing, I'd definitely recommend this to all travelers, great way to relax the Japanese way ;) Best of all, the staff was overly helpful and unobtrusively caring. They saw my bottle of sake just in a paper bag and the staff wrapped it in bubble wrap without being asked to make sure it doesn't break in my trip home! Simply amazing experience. I'll definitely be back here with my family soon!

A Traditional Ryokan (Japanese Inn) ExperienceWe stayed here 4 nights and it was truly a memorable experience. Our accommodations consisted of three rooms - one bedroom (we had the only unit with a bed); 2 tatami floored rooms which required sitting on the floor; a WC, a vanity area and a separate tub/shower room as well as a veranda. Breakfast was served every morning by a kimono-clad server and the meal consisted of a dozen or so small Japanese delicacies. There is a public bath and two private baths, and a beautiful garden with walking paths and a large pond with carp and bridges. An experience not to be missed, if you have never stayed in a traditional Japanese Inn. The only down side is the lack of wi-fi, except in the lobby and the lack of a cocktail lounge. There is a lounge area, but only coffee and tea are served there. (You can buy sake and take it to your room.) We have stayed in a ryokan before, but Daimaru Besso is by far the best we have experienced.

Relaxing private ryokan Daimaru BessoIt was our last nite in Japan, our last splash out, traditional tatami ryokan. Half board with traditional dinner an breakfast. The suite was very large easily big enough 4/5 peeps. Lounge tv room, balcony tea making area double sliding window with a view to their internal beautiful large garden, was amazing. There was a small private wooden tube/shower bathroom, but there was the large public Onsen which was amazingly relaxing hot natural spring. Used after dinner approx 10pm, fewer people, and at 6.30ish in the morning had it all to myself which was heavenly. Loved the variety on the set menu dinner, which was small dishes but very filling, had to pass on the rice bowl provided, as way too much, very delicious even not actually knowing wat some of the dishes were, tried it any ways. Breakfast again was another set of dishes smaller than dinner luckily as was still full frm nite before. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing time.
