    Jewel in the Jungle

Pinch yourself. You've arrived at a little piece of Heaven. A small two-story family run hotel atop a small mountain awaits you here. Regina, the owner and hostess, sets the tone for your very laid back visit. Quiet, uncrowded, peaceful, surrounded by nature and birds, great cuisine. We stayed upstairs to take advantage of the views over the hummingbird feeders for photos. Don't miss the swimming pool's parrot parade about sunset. Don't worry about an alarm clock. The chachalacas will do it for you. Cuffie is really a retreat. And with Regina to run it, you won't need a thing. Take the side trip offered to see the tropicbirds too. Wondrous.

    Amazing

We stayed for two nights in January 2020. Regina is a lovely host and we had some lovely chats about the history and location. We did a walking tour with Desmond, who has a lot of local knowledge (history and wildlife). The food is cooked on site every day. It is fresh and delicious. The retreat is just that. It is peaceful and fully immersive with nature. The only noise is from birds or toads. I would highly recommend.

    Lovely stay

Beautiful room -- lots of space, comfortable beds, wonderful porch. Gorgeous grounds and an enticing swimming pool. Birds abound, between the hummingbirds swarming the feeders, the parrots squawking and the motmots flitting about. Best of all are the wonderful, tasty meals and warm hospitality from Regina. Desmond gives great birding walks, and its fun to explore the area on your own. We had a lovely, relaxing stay!

    A small piece of paradise

My birding group, through Caligo Ventures, ended our tour of T & T at Cuffie. We had 3 nights here. It really was paradise. We arrived in the late afternoon and got settled in our rooms. The rooms were all open ( you could close the shutters on the veranda but there was no need). In the daytime I left my room door open and the hummingbirds and tanagers flew through from one side of the building to the other! I left my deck/veranda open at night. No poisonous snakes in Tobago. No critters entered the room. Not sure how. Our group dined together at a table for 12. We had great meals and enjoyed the bar service. Regina, our host, was very approachable and introduced each of us to our rooms and the house rules. The pool was refreshing and we were able to bird watch and lounge. I felt so relaxed there. It was quite lovely. And we saw Trinidad Motmots. Thank you Regina and all the lovely folks who work for you. I'd like to return sometime and still have to read the book!

    Birding Heaven

This is an awesome place for birders! It is way off the beaten path. You cannot see any other buildings from the premises. There are plenty of fruit and hummingbird feeders on the grounds that you can see from your balcony and they are filled daily. There is a comfortable living area with a television I never saw anyone watching. Why would you? They also have a pool that is never crowded. Three excellent meals a day are served in the open air dining room. (The whole place is open-air). Beer and wine are available. Just ask the girls in the kitchen and give them your room number. The rooms are spacious and attractive with balconies. I was a bit concerned that there was no screen door leading out to the balcony, but Regina reassured me that bugs were not a problem. And they weren't. However, you may want to close your drapes at night. (the breeze still blows through!) We left ours open the first night and I found a gift from a fruit bat on my sheets the next morning. Apparently I had a friendly visitor while I slept. We especially liked the back deck (which was right near our room) at night. We were treated to the singing of the bull toads starting at dusk and a white-tailed nightjar. Pauraques were on the driveway at night also. This was a great place to see the Trinidad motmot who was a regular visitor to the fruit feeders and should be called the Tobago motmot as we never saw one in Trinidad! The ruby topaz hummingbirds were regular too! Come here, you will love it!
