    Good for the location

Maybe things are different in ski season, but I'm not quite sure what all the hating is about for the Village Inn (they get more positive reviews on booking.com). The motel is older and the decor tired, but rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, hot water plentiful (if a bit unpredictable), and wifi worked well. Not having elevators was a minus, but not a serious one, especially since we got a parking spot on the upper level. Given that this place is really the only option if you want to stay near the Sunrise area at Mt. Rainier (about a 40 minute trip from the Inn to the Sunrise visitor center), we were certainly satisfied, especially since we could just walk across the parking lot to their Alpine Inn for meals.

    Location, location, location

This hotel was actually fine for me, but only because I don't really ask for a lot. I don't personally care if a hotel room is small, sparsely furnished/equipped, or in an old building. But I've stayed in enough to know what is above average and what's below, and that's what I think a review should reflect. General ambience: it's clearly old and old-fashioned. I don't mean like antique/classic historical old. I mean 1950s old, with the style and construction standards of an era when skiing in general was a more spartan affair. The layout is awkward, there are basically no common areas or amenities, and the furniture in the rooms is minimal too. To be fair, my single-queen room is a decent size for that category - I've been in bigger, but I've been in far smaller too. Positive: the location. Did I mention that? I like staying slopeside, and this is *almost* slopeside. Just a parking lot away. There's only one place closer, a handful similar, and after that you're driving in from 30 miles away. So yeah, positive. Negative: the era-typical heating system and insulation means a chilly room. Remember, this is part of a *ski area*. The heating system shouldn't struggle to maintain a tolerable temperature when it's above freezing outside, but this one does. I hate to think it's like when things get truly cold out there.

    Location is everything!

Having read other reviews and having stayed in National Park accommodations before, we didn't expect anything fancy. We had a small room with a queen bed overlooking the front of the property. The purpose of our visit was to visit Mount Rainier National Park while in the area for a college tour. We needed someplace close that didn't require camping. It was perfect! It's a short walk across the parking lot to get to the Alpine Inn Restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is great, the atmosphere is charming, the staff if friendly, and the setting around the restaurant is beautiful forest. We took the Mount Rainier gondola to the top of the mountain for breathtaking panoramic views of mountain ranges including Mt. Rainier. There is a cafe at the top with a good lunch menu as well as a gift shop just below the gondola. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Crystal Mountain and would definitely return. The rooms aren't fancy, but when you're exhausted from exploring, it doesn't matter.

Nice to not fight am traffic

I may be a bit generous with my 3 star rating here, but the location is great. I loved not getting up at 5:00 am to drive here, rather rolling out of bed at 8 and knowing I was a short walk to the slopes. Beds were comfy, although the rooms are spartan. WiFi worked well. Tv had limited channels and heavy snow blocked the satellite signal. The windows are thin. We listened to all of the heavy machinery clearing away the snow all night. The water temperature does vary wildly. But overall for the convenience of being so close to the slopes, I will be back.

Basic but all about the location

This is an older hotel that provides basic accommodations. It really is all about the location. We came to spend time near Mt. Rainier. This location is convenient to Sunrise, Tipsoo Lake, and especially they Crystal Mountain Gondola for summer. The staff was super friendly and offered help to find local activities etc. Check in and check out were very smooth. I had requested a room with few steps but this place doesn't really have that. We parked in the upper lot area and to get to our room we had to go down AND up about 8 steps to get to the hallway door. Rooms are off of an inside hallway. Ours was room 405 (the numbers have nothing to do with floor level!) I think we were on the 2nd floor, just above the office. To me the most important part of a hotel room is the bed. This bed was a bit high for my short legs and VERY Firm. I did not sleep well at all because the bed was so hard and left me in pain. Overall the room is small but that is not a problem to me. They have a small fridge and coffee maker but no microwave or cooking of any kind allowed. The other issue we had was the bathroom. The toilet was very low to the ground and made creaking sounds when I sat on it like it might come off the wall. We felt like we were using a child sized toilet. We were feeling a bit chilly so we turned on the heat which is baseboard heating. It worked almost too well. The deck is a really nice touch and gives you more space to relax and enjoy the view though they are not private at all which doesn't bother me but might some. Overall I went for the experience of the location but would probably not return to this room mainly due to the uncomfortable bed. I need my sleep! Continental breakfast was available at the Alpine Inn and was complimentary with the room.
