Self catering cottages are lovelyWe stayed in one of the larger self catering cottages. It was really lovely. The cottages are spacious and well kitted out. Great if you are bringing your dog on holiday. Really handy to have the Cider House restaurant so nearby.

Good location, Average hotelWe spent a week as a couple staying in a Comfy Room, holidaying in the UK due to Covid. The location was good for exploring the area by car and on foot and there are plenty of options for eating out a short drive away in Chichester or the surrounding area. However the hotel is not a true four star: Pro's - room was well eqipped with nice patio - quality of breakfast food was good - staff were all friendly and polite Cons - cleaning of room during stay was hit and miss, bed barely made, sheets not changed during a full weeks stay, toiletries not always replenished - sound insulation from neighbouring room was very poor, we could hear everything including what they were doing in the bathroom (some people might find this very embarassing) - service at breakfast was variable, continually having to chase up items and some days delays in getting served were lenthgy. Also little choice of food if you didn't like eggs, would have expected a proper continental alternative (cold meat, cheese, pastries) - car park on a night is very dark and needs lights to aid walking back to rooms safely. We didn't eat in the restautrant in the evening as the menu was uninspiring. The Covid regulations are not an excuse for any of the above as we had stayed in an equivalently rated hotel a couple of weeks before and it was far superior.

Lovely Hotel & Cottage in great locationWe stayed in hotel rooms for the first night as the cottages were full. Lovely rooms which opened on the outside garden/dining area, with outside seating outside our room. However our daughter opened her garden door to find other guests sat outside her room having breakfast!. We were fine but I would not feel comfortable staying in one of these rooms if I was on my own as the lock did not feel particularly secure. We then moved to the the Egremont cottage - modern bright and spacious cottage overlooking lovely garden. Outside furniture a bonus especially as we were fortunate with the weather. Spacious kitchen with lots of food prep room, dishwasher & washing machine ideal for a longer stay. Two sets of patio doors opening out onto spacious patio and garden. Excellent location near West Wittering, Chichester and South Coast resorts. The Nespresso machine is a lovely touch but no espresso cups provided. Additional utensils would be a bonus, no mixing bowls or measuring jug. Although not an issue for us, Plastic cups (eg from Ikea etc) would be useful for outside use, especially if there are young children playing outside. While overall worktops, bathrooms etc were very clean .. under the beds had not been vacuumed in a while.

An expensive TravelodgeDefinitely not worth the money. We went for the Luxe room, and be warned, you don't get the posh bath shown in the picture (or at least we didn't). Only one very small bar of soap, and only one biscuit with the tea and coffee. The shower head was almost completely blocked with limescale. Small details, but very important if you are treating yourself to a "luxury" weekend away. The lack of fresh milk and a fridge has been brought up in a lot of other reviews. The rooms are functional and do the job, but "Luxe" they are not. The welcome wasn't. The front desk staff we encountered did not seem overly friendly, and in general seem quite harassed. We booked the dinner bed and breakfast, and the website said (in fact still says) you get a "delectable 3 course dinner". No, you don't. It was neither delectable, nor a 3-course dinner. On arrival, we were informed we were getting a £24.50 allowance each off the a la carte, which was the exact amount extra we had paid to add Dinner to the B&B price. You cannot buy a three course meal for that money, even if you choose the three cheapest items on the menu. After a degree of back and forth over dinner, the manager finally agreed to give us three courses, but who wants that kind hassle? She said it was incorrect, and would get it changed, but guess what? A week on, the same misdescription is on the website still Some of the dishes were quite good, and others less so. In fact the mackerel starter was really not good at all. On the first night, the 3 cheese selection was outstanding. However, on night two,, we got 3 completely different cheeses and different biscuits, and it was utterly uninspiring. We tried to swap to the pizza restaurant on the second night, but we could not get in. Most reviews suggest it is much better and better value than the main restaurant, so worth booking in advance Breakfast was enjoyable, and given that fact that you can't do buffets at the moment, they did a good job. Unlike the reception staff, the restaurant staff were generally very pleasant and helpful In all, the experience was very corporate, and while not terrible, not great either, particularly at that price. That said, the place seems full, and we heard at least one couple waxing lyrical at the reception desk about the food, so maybe it was just not the place for us. It is a fantastic location, with a lot of beautiful walks and scenery very close by. We will be back, for sure, just not to Crouchers.
