  great hotel with lots of history

  the staff were great and very helpful, comfy bed had a good nights sleep ,dinner at night was fantastic so was breakfast the eggs I'm sure were not super market eggs the yolks were a beautiful colour , my only gripe is the tv was to small for the room my computer screen is that size. very clos to shops and the lake.

  Wonderfully restored and well-maintained hotel. Joyful and peaceful stay.

  An absolute joy of a stay in this wonderfully restored and well-maintained hotel, reminiscent of a bygone era. Well decorated foyer, private and function rooms. Muted lighting, period furniture, chandeliers, high decorated ceilings and cornices, standout fireplaces, portraits along the corridors, grand staircase, I can go on and on. Quiet, peaceful ambience, friendly staff, interesting menu for breakfast and dinner. The high-tea on Sunday is a great addition to any stay.. Another added bonus was the calm and quiet of the common areas. Love that the hotel is not noisy even in the common areas, which is hard to achieve these days. One notices the care both management and staff has taken in maintaining a high standard of quality and service. I highly recommend this fine establishment for anyone wanting to experience something different and special.

  Step back in time to a wonderful period of Ballarat architecture

  My wife and I stayed for three days in a Superior room which was very comfortable, adequately spacious, clean and quiet. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom spacious and very clean. The hotel was beautifully restored and a delight to wander around enjoying the period furniture and fittings, paintings and typical ambience of the period. The television was fine and the wifi fast. The restaurant and cafe belonging to the hotel were both excellent. We had a wonderful meal in the restaurant and excellent breakfasts and coffee in the cafe. There is off street parking available in a closed courtyard of the hotel although it is not particularly easy to access and could be tight for larger vehicles if the car park is full which probably can only comfortably accommodate about ten cars. The hotel is centrally located and close to attractions such as the Ballarat Art Gallery. We would not hesitate staying there again

  Pleasant stay in a gorgeous old hotel

  We stayed in the Shanghai Suite for a weekend getaway. Lovely old hotel with so many period details. Its not all mod cons - the tv was a small flat screen and I dont think there was a full length mirror in the room - but the renovations are well done and it was a comfortable stay. Breakfast is included as is secure parking. Definitely a charming place to stay.

  Classic hotel with all mod cons

  It is difficult not to be impressed by the foyer of Craig's Royal Hotel. The hotel was intended to be Ballarat's flagship hotel. Craig's was opened in the 1850s, when Ballarat was the epicenter of the Great Australian Gold Rush. We had a Classic suite, which was furnished in period style. The bathroom, however, was completely up to date and I had a beautiful hot shower
