Extended Stay Felt Like HomeI had the pleasure of staying at the Courtyard Montvale this past January (2020). I stayed for the entire month due to a month long training for a new position within my company. Michael the front desk manager was more than accommodating and friendly. I told him my name once and he remembered it my entire stay, greeting me with a hello and a smile daily. Caroline a recent new hire both friendly and funny! I had plenty of great conversations with her that made me feel less alone. She was helpful, diligent, and insightful. The breakfast staff was also the type you'd find at your local breakfast cafe, I never caught the young guys name; but he always remembered my order, if I was taking breakfast to go, he made sure to make a side cup of chalula for me since they didn't have hot sauce packets. The staff in itself would get this place a 5 out of 5 but the rooms were even nicer. Since I had to basically live at the hotel for a whole month, I was scared to see where I'd be staying. However, the room was as big as a large studio apartment with a king bed a sofa sleeper, a desk for work, and a full size bath and shower with Paul Mitchell Shampoo and Body Wash. Plenty of space for me not to feel trapped. 5 out of 5 all around for the hotel, the location was great, staff was great, the room was great. The lunch and dinner restaurant attached Fire and Oak wasn't so great. Their bartenders move like molasses and are meh at best. I work both in the Tourism and Hospitality industry, I've been in their shoes, I tip well. They were slow, and unfriendly in the actual bar area of Fire and Oak, sit at a servers table for the best service.

Worst customer service experience ever During CovidIt was me and my wife's Birthday weekend August 6th and we had a link set up through the hotel for my group to book rooms. Upon arrival, we booked and paid for a King bed room category and asked if we could have a room on the 1st floor, but we were just handed keys and it was on the 3rd floor. The person on duty "Chris" stated that there are no rooms on the 1st floor and they are fully booked. So we were given a room with double beds and asked if we could change to a king or at least on the 1st floor when it is available. Chris said no problem. We have booked here plenty times and thought nothing of it because they were always friendly and accommodating. The next day Aug 7th, my cousin Robert went to check in on Aug and they had the same request with the person at the front desk and they said come back in 30 minutes. So they did and they still didn't have a king bed or 1st floor room available. They were advised to come back again in another 30 minutes to check. When they came back, the manager said we have a guest thinking about if they want to stay another day or not and they are in a king room and on the 1st floor. So they were asked by the manager to wait an additional 30 minutes to wait for the guest to make up his mind. But my cousin stated, if anyone should get the King room, if should be me.. The manager bluntly said "Thats not going to happen, they have a room and we can't move anyone because we are fully booked". At this time it was around 4:15pm and my cousin was given a double bed room. Then around 6pm. My other checked in and was just given a room on the 1st floor by the pool. It was a double bed, but we would have taken that because it was on the 1st floor. The manger said when we booked the room online, it states that rooms are based on availability. That could have been they case and we took it as it was but below you will see that this was not the case. So I greeted my cousin and went to my room on the 3rd floor for something and a female guest was stuck in the hallway because her card was not working. So I made a call to the front deck from my room to help out and they said they were on the way. I before I made the call, that female gueat stated that she was in a king room on the 1st floor that she didn't like because there were a few flies in the room so they made her new keys and moved her to the 3rd floor. Meanwhile I asked the day before and my cousin Robert asked the same day to move and they said they were fully booked. They never accommodated anything for us. On top of all of that, our sink was clogged the whole time and the maintenance guy/engineer came in to fix the clog at 3pm Aug 8th and said how come you didnt go downstairs and speak to Mike to ask for a different room. I advised him that we did that and they said NO. He said that is messed up. We never asked Mike for a different room, but we did ask Chris another employee and the manager and they all said no. Mike is the best, he would have done it, but I was fed up with it and just accepted it. Mike has always helped and accommodated us in the past. I don't want to make this seem as if it was a racist thing. But we are African Americans and the lady that was help with being locked out her room that they helped on the 1st request was white. But I don't think I will be staying there anytime soon. And we had lots of rooms booked there between July and August based on me and my getting everyone together during covid.

Gen Z suffers and so do the guestsSeldom has a member of Gen Z suffered from having to answer a question or find something for a guest like these Gen Z employees suffer. They can barely verbalize a response, so exhausted are they from having to put up with the guests. The very sight of a baby boomer is JUST TOO MUCH. They show how exhausted they are just to look at you, never mind supply an answer, by their heavy eyelids and deep sighs and the effort it takes to get that 25 year old body off the chair. They would be good supporting players in Oblomov. But it is also serious: When you are away from home and need help, you will not get it here. You can't even get a coffee the way you want it here, never mind actual communication help when travelling for business.

Centrally locatedThis hotel is a perfect location and easy to reach the Rockland Bakery, Delpino Italian Restaurant, CVS, and Wegmans Market. Not far are premium outlets and malls. Thank you Michael for always making us feel welcomed and for your restaurant suggestions. The rooms are spacious and have comfy beds! All precautions are taken for COVID.
