    Basic hotel

    I stayed at this hotel for a family event. I missed the free coffee in the lobby. Come on, Marriot loved having Starbucks coffee, hated having to pay for it. The room was pleasant, the bath needs an update.

    Room neat, first 3 days good customer service, check out day everything was a mess

    I had booked a King bed room for a federal employee rate. I had gone to attend a humanitarian/charity event that kept me occupied for 18 hours a day. So, I barely stayed in the room. The first three days, the staff was awesome. The room was comfortable and clean. Everything about the room was good. However, the last day, I had to be at the event all night and came to the room early morning very tired. Relaxed for an hour and decided to go down have breakfast, shower and sleep for a while. The first day I was there, I vaguely remember seeing that they offered free breakfast. So, I went up to the front desk and there were two Caucasian ladies, one elderly. I asked the elderly woman about the free breakfast. She looked at my account and said "You are already getting a low federal rate" in a condescending tone. I wondered what has that got to do with free breakfast. She said we attract business travelers and Starbucks inside their hotel doesn't offer free breakfast. Now, if this was a hotel that was business friendly, she should have been professional and said "Sorry sir, No we don't offer free breakfast". The previous day, I had requested for a late checkout and it was granted. I was bit concerned by this new staff, decided to double check my late checkout request. The other lady sensed the situation and she attended to me while the elderly woman goes to pick up the roster to verify whether I was telling the truth. I said I am an elite member. This lady agreed for the late checkout (tone was terse). The situation bothered me so much, I decided to check out early. When I go to check out, who is there at the desk? The elderly woman. So, I thought I will just ask her whether the service level offered is based on how much you pay for the hotel. She thought I didn't get my late checkout. She said we have several platinum and gold members that when they need a room, we cannot give you a late checkout. I stopped her and said, I was asking about the incident and why she had to mention about my low rate. She ended up saying that she was complimenting. Well, after that she seemed doubtful that I was a Federal employee. (I am an Asian). Her conversation started going in that direction. Then I realized there is a serious problem with this staff here. I am not in the hotel business and I have zilch knowledge about their business or issues. I am a customer and the conversations should have been kept professional. Otherwise, I as a customer, will have to make my own conclusions. I decided to research this hotel and that is when I saw all the reviews with one to three stars. I have stayed in Mariott hotels such as Renaissance, Ritz Carlton, Mariott category 6 and 7 hotels. I have been staying at Mariott for the past several years and trusted their staff to be exemplary. But, this incident was an eye opener.

    Highly Recommend Courtyard Chicago St. Charles

    We very much liked and enjoyed staying at the Courtyard Chicago St-Charles. The staff was exceptionally nice and very helpful. We loved having the Bistro restaurant with great food versus an all-you-can-eat free buffet. It was wonderful eating outside in the beautiful Courtyard and Gazebo. The only thing needed in that area is a fire pit. We were disappointed with the Bar as there really isnt a Bar. The Restaurant has wine and beer to purchase but no liquor and a Very nice lobby area to relax in with a Fireplace, Our room was nice and clean, I especially like the sink being outside of the bathroom. We also had a very nice balcony we sat on which overlooked the beautiful courtyard. We didn't use the pool but it look very nice. Great location close to parks, shopping and sporting events. I would highly recommend this hotel and if we visit the area again, well definitely stay here.

    Expensive for what it is

    Rooms were comfortable but the decor was just so outdated - from the bathtub to the taps, showers furniture, TV, this felt like a 1990s hotel but very well maintained. The Starbucks in the lobby did an efficient but pretty poor breakfast. The meeting room that we used smelt mouldy. But that said, the service from the front desk and staff for the meeting room was impeccable. So the hardware needs some major upgrading here, but the service was excellent.

    I stayed here 2 nights for a friend's wedding. Everything was wonderful. Rooms were clean and staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, especially Priscilla and Cameron who worked the night shift. They went above and beyond to make our stay awesome. Thanks guys!
