  The Bistro

  I ordered this breakfast burrito this morning. It was definitely filling. Thank you Darnella and Emily! For this huge burrito, fruit and a Starbucks coffee it ran me just a little over $11. Staff was very friendly.

  Could be better

  Location: Off the highway. Near many chain restaurants. Property: Newish. Grounds well kept. Large, well appointed lobby. One elevator. Service satisfactory. There is no courtyard at the Courtyard. Small seating area next to outdoor pool. Check-in: Efficient but not particularly enthusiastic. Bistro: Bistro opens at 5 PM for drinks and lite fare. Attendant was undertrained. She did not know what Pinot Noir was. Ten wines on the menu; only five available. Pinot was not available. Food was fine. Only one person on duty to bartend, serve and prepare food. Attendant was not cordial. Room: Clean. Well appointed. Pretty good layout. Bed very close to wall. A/C across the room from the bed. This is good. Mattress quite firm. Quiet. Breakfast: No complimentary breakfast. They even eliminated the complimentary coffee in the lobby. Breakfast available for purchase in the Bistro. Complimentary coffee, one cup at a time, available in the room. Exercise room: Two treadmills, one elliptical and free weights. No bike. Hard floor; no floor mats. Business Center: One computer with printer in the back of the sitting area; semi-private. One computer and printer in less private place for stand up quick printing. Value: At $137 for King Suite, the price is reasonable but not a bargain. Internet: Slow. Download and upload both barely above 15 Mbps.

  Going Downhill

  Ive hesitated to write this review because the staff is just so darn nice. Unfortunately, after my 4th stay, how pleasant they are is no longer making up for the hotels shortcomings. First, the positives: Trussville is a nice part of town - safe and convenient for business that I have in the area. The first time I stayed, I booked the Suite. It was spacious and had a balcony with a nice view of the hills. On my next two stays, I booked a regular Guest Room, but anticipated being upgraded due to my Marriott Platinum Elite status. Unfortunately, that didnt happen either time and the guest rooms are basic at best. On my last stay, I booked a Suite again, but was given a 1st Floor Suite (in spite of my noted request to be on a high floor). I was disappointed not only at the lack of acknowledgement of my status & requests, but also at how run down their regular guest rooms are. Aside from that: 1) On my last stay, the pantry/market had no refrigerated or frozen foods available. 2) On my stay prior to that, the cafe said their kitchen wasnt working so they couldnt make any food except avocado toast. 3) Also during my last stay, the business center computer wasnt working. I needed to print out a document for a meeting I was headed to, so I wound up having to drive 15 minutes to a FedEx Office. Ill probably stay here again out of convenience, but my expectations arent high.

  Stay away til after Covid

  Ms Dee was very nice at the front desk, it went downhill from there. Room wasn't cleaned very well as I found left over trash and wash cloth hanging in shower. Bed wasn't tightly made. Fitness room closed as well as breakfast area. Wasn't very busy thus lower staff and poor amenity services. I've stayed here pre Covid and it was decent. I'd stay away til after Covid.

  Exceptional Stay

  What a pleasant stay in Trussville! While traveling in town for work, I chose Courtyard due to personal preference and it's close proximity to the conference site. The warm welcome, friendliness of the staff and clean room made my stay enjoyable. My request of a high-floor was granted. The room rate included breakfast from the Bistro, which was great! I would definitely chose this hotel again if I'm ever in the Birmingham area.
