Very TranqualGreat location nestled in the bush, all the cottages are stand alone which gives you more privacy, we had the fire going as it gets cold there, excellent restaurants not far in Olinda plenty to choose from but book a table as they get busy on weekends. We drove to a winery in Yarra Glen it was fantastic great wine excellent food, the cottages are old probably need a little re-vamp. I would stay there again without doubt.

Serious Issues. We spent three nights recently in the Oakbrook Cottage. Whilst there were several nice things about our stay the accommodation has a number of serious issues ( upkeep and maintenance related) that definitely affect it's qualifications as a "luxury" retreat. Whilst the small, pleasant touches such as bathrobes, port & chocolates etc are nice, they are quickly forgotten when you are shivering in the cold because the heating is inefficient and you can't have a hot shower. Location The cottages are located a short drive from Sassafras township in a pretty wooded location. Having looked at advertising photos and video we can see that, at one time, the grounds were nicely maintained and attractive. However exterior manitenance has been seriously let go. There is a massive build up of leaf litter and fallen branches etc all over the property. The website says that Oakbrook cottage has a 'large verandah overlooking the trout pond". The "trout pond" was a bog of muddy leaf litter. If you follow the path to the "lily pond you'll find it in exactly the same sad state. Nearby was another pond, this one did have water in it but it was also full of dead branches and leaf litter. The running brooks shown in their advertising videos are dry and sad. There is ivy growing all over the trees and ferns, and the roofs of some of the cottages are covered with a massive build up of leaves. I've added several photos of the grounds to my review Interior Finishes The lounges were comfortable and the kitchen had a good supply of working appliances and utensils. The bed linen and towels were of good quality and there is an electric blanket which we appreciated. We did not use the TV. Their window curtains are very dated and tired. The curtains in the bedroom "pool" onto the floor and were filthy at the bottom - they really need to update their window furnishings. The spa is large and clean but allow plenty of time to fill it as the water pressure is not good. The wood fire is very old and rusty, the knob that is supposed to allow you to adjust airflow is rusted into the "low" position. The wall behind the fire is badly splattered with muck. For a 3 night stay we were provided with a few pieces of kindling, 5 logs and a sufficient supply of firelighters. In the information book it states "you are provided with a sufficient supply of kindling and firewood", however because the fire was rusted on the low setting it was impossible to get a good fire going on the first night as we were trying to keep enought kindling for our remaining two nights. There is also an old, dirty air conditioner on the wall but it was too inefficient to warm the room. On our first night the only warm places were in the bath or in bed! This is very poor and not remotely luxurious! In the book you are advised that there is more wood available in their wood shed but you may be charged for taking more wood. There are also instructions that wood and kindling can be purchased from the petrol station at The Basin. We went to find that petrol station the next day and it was closed ( and looked like it had been closed for some time! Their book info is outdated) However we did find kindling at another station further down the road. For the remaining two nights we purchased our own kinding and were able to then get a reasonable fire burning. Shower The shower is terrible. There is mould between the tiles and the shower door has a huge dirty build up of mould. The worst thing is that it is impossible to get the water flowing at a comfortable temperature. It flows scalding hot for 30 seconds and then goes totally cold for a minute and fluctuates like this constantly. In the book it advises that they have an instantaneous hot water system with instructions as to how to get the hot water flowing to an acceptable level but we followed their instructions and it simply does not work. In this day and age there must be solutions to such a basic problem. A "luxury retreat" where you can't have a decent hot shower is terrible. Breakfast provisions There were generous provisions of bacon, eggs, tomatoes, muesli, baked beans and jam etc. The fruit provided was 3 apples for 2 people for 3 days. There were 6 slices of bread provided for 3 days ( but they do advise in their instructions that you can request more bread if you need it) There is olive oil , salt and pepper and sauce provided. We were disappointed that there is no BBQ as most accommodation of this type usually provide a BBQ, however there were plenty of pans for cooking breakfast inside. Extra There are bathrobes provided, a bottle of sparkling wine and a small carafe of port and chocoloates. These were all very nice.

AwfulI will never stay in these facilities again, nor would I recommend to anyone. We were greeted with no less than 50 steps upward from Carpark to cottage. Once in there, the spa was in the corner of the main room, not in an individual bathroom as stated on the booking website. The conara flu was rusted closed, the bathroom had traces of mould on the tiles. I was told this was discoloring. The was a serous discoloured substance on the shower door between the glass that I was told was not mould, but obviously was acceptable to present to customers at $370 per night. ( Refund was rejected.) Maintenance had to be repeatedly contacted via text 3rd party company to try and fix the flu. I would have thought would have been assessed regularly as a safety aspect, as a luxurious retreat. The same complaints I have now read in previous reviews, that I wish I had read prior to booking. (Maintenance contact me at 6:42 am after not returning that night as it was documented as fixed). The establishment appears it is not using mains water, as I experienced a heavy fluctuation between extreme hot and cold temperatures, limp and excessive pressure. The water is also discoloured. The overall cottage including kitchenware was generally filthy. The mattress was exhausted and depressed in the centre. We left the following morning although we paid for two nights, as we found it more luxurious, and tranquil at home. Never again. Review is based on personal experience only, and may differ from customer to customer. Photos taken by myself only, at time of stay.

Over pricedBooked a night at the Watergarden Cottage at Monreale for my husband and I I will start will the good bits the cottage was secluded and the autumn trees were lovely the bed was very comfy nice veranda Coonara fireplace The not so good bits are 30 stairs up from the carpark cottage is a bit tired looking spa takes forever to fill and the water looks dirty it states breakfast provisions are provided but all we had was 2 bottles of water in our basket Would not recommend lots of accommodation available in this location closer to the little township of Sassafras and Olinda
