Great value for money, if you can sacrifice some comfort!

What we liked: We booked the hut for our stay. The hut was absolute value for money. At that price, it was a steal among all other accommodation options on the island! We love it that its close to the beach as well, just walk down the stairs and you're there. If sand and sea are not your cup of tea, there's also the pool which you can dip in on the premises. What we didn't like: The shared bathrooms at the huts area didn't give us the sense that it was clean enough. Perhaps the ventilation wasn't good enough and it felt that the place was forever wet and stuffy. The cafe on site was in such poor state, being ran by only 1 staff at all times. He had to do everything himself. We walked in at 9.15am after it opened at 9am, the staff was still eating his own breakfast. He told us to take a seat first and would be with us shortly. We waited for 10 minutes, watched him finish eating, he went into the kitchen to get busy, but didn't take our orders. We left without ordering anything, since no one was there to attend to us. Perhaps the management should look into revamping the cafe. The number of arcade machines on site that were faulty and no longer working was also numerous. Many of the games dated back to 10-20 years ago (e.g. Time Crisis 2). They should also look to revamp the space and get rid of the non-working machines to freshen the look of the place.

You get what you pay for

The title says it all. This place is the budget choice for Sentosa. The resort is pretty run down and in need of a freshen up but the service was good and the location is great. The TV was in pretty bad shape and there was only a couple of channels in English. The shower had mold and mildew and there was a damp smell in the room. BUT the bed was comfy and the sheets were clean. Id recommend staying there but just be sure to adjust your expectations accordingly. There are no elevators and lot of stairs. Be sure to use the back stair case past the pool as a shortcut to the beach. Theres a free shuttle bus to VivoCity that I didnt know about until the last day either.

    Fawlty Towers of Sentosa

When you book Costa Sands Resort its because its the cheapest deal and there's a reason for this. It is an old and poorly maintained property with flaking paint, scuffed doors, vending and gaming machines out of service and staff who are moderately helpful. No lifts and no concierge so you have to carry the bags up three flights of stairs yourself. We had cobwebs in the room and dust along some of the surfaces. On a plus side, the bed was comfortable and the A/C sufficient. It is what it says on the box, cheap but unfortunately not cheerful.

Good price but could be so much better!

Wanted to take my kids to universal etc this visit to Singapore so thought it would be fun to stay on Sentosa island. I managed to find an affordable destination in costa sands and the outer look of the place and location where superb. I just found that attention to detail and staff left a lot of room for improvement. A little investment in the place and it would be so much better!

If you still can - cancel and go elsewhere!

Awful, the best thing is the location and the staff are friendly. We were told the hotel is closing down and frankly it should. The decor is from the 50s, shower cubicle black with grim, no bedside lamp (contrary to site pictures), stained bedding. One grey old bath towel per person, $25 for an extra towel, so no pool towels either, of course. Pool only has 5 deck chairs, there's a family staying at the moment so they have claimed those. All the machines in the 'games area" are arcade machines and are out of order (a plus!). Hard wooden seating in reception, not even a cushion thrown on. No food available at all, drinks from vending machine, so you need coins, which we don't have having just arrived. Grim, depressing, dirty places, absolutely not worth £70 a night per room. On the plus side, there is a fridge in the room and the air con works. Our recommendation, cancel and go elsewhere if you can. Room pictures to follow.
