    Horrible check-in experience ...

As a family of 3 we had booked a Costa Suite for one week. Usually check-in is your first interaction with a hotel - and for sure in my overall travels this experience was the worst ever, courtesy of Maria at the reception. We presented our passports, marriage certificate - yet Maria insisted that my wife (a Kuwaiti national) present her residency not just passport. Imagine having a baby with you, its late at night, all documents present, not one single person at the reception .. only the geography professor Maria, who also interrupts us, starts answering the front office in the middle of the conversation to make restaurant bookings ... upon requesting to see the General Manager, a young hotel employee appears and apologises then checks us in ... I had requested that the General Manager contact me as I wanted to share with him our experience - however it seems he is quiet a busy person and I never did get that call. The suite itself is spacious, however the design of the bathroom is not convenient. The bathtub itself needs a manual to function. Overall I can not recommend this hotel - neither for business nor pleasure.

    Dinner with Friends

We were 5 friends dined in Olas Restaurant. Lester was the one who attended us. He was courteous ,polite and articulate. The food selections were delicious and fresh. The restaurant ambiance was cool and very clean. We enjoyed a lot.

Ignore the one and two stars reviews - they are disinformative

I recommend this hotel for transit (KD8 from airport, KD7 from hotel to airport using hotel transport) or if you have a car provided you pay less than $100 per night. The biggest downside with the hotel is the location -- absolutely nothing around save for private clinics and pharmacies with a smattering of local fast food joints and cold stores. Very dirty as well if you go to Arabian Gulf highway and turn left. No place to change money except at the hotel. Inside the hotel by the elevator banks is an NBK ATM. (A branch of the bank is currently under construction adjacent to the hotel.) ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF TOURISTIC VALUE IN THE HOTEL ENVIRONS -- completely shambolic. Must be a result of cuts to the public works budget. Horrible for pedestrians. Recommend hiking boots -- as your trainers, at least in the winter when it can be rainy, will become utterly filthy. Two pedestrian overpasses over the autobahn are closed as of the time of this review so, if you want to go dine at Johnny Carino's, be prepared to run across to the median dodging Kuwaiti would-be Shumachers on the way. There is on the safe side of the highway one place called Shalweet (an Arabic take on Shall We Eat) and one lit up place called Lubnaan. Otherwise, nothing doing. Recommend going right out of the hotel entrance crossing over to a barber shop going left to the corner and then right, where these is a pedestrian overpass (over another highway) that can take you over to Amman Avenue then to Baghdad avenue (perpendicular to Amman avenue) where there are some dining venues from which to choose. What can I way about the room? Obtained two rooms in one: one with a queen-size bed and the other with a sofa-bed. The frig I moved into the room with the sofa-bed as the frig, while it worked well in its chilling capacity, unfortunately was quite noisy and disturbed my sleep. Funny thing is that the frig comes with a key, which I had to ask for, requesting as well that the drinks inside be removed. Pervading the room was an intermittent strange swishing noise, I suppose it was the central aircon, made me think that it was raining when in fact it was bone dry outside - also a kind of annoying sound. Prayer call is also quite loud at 4am. Recommend earplugs if, in particular, you face the mosque. I had a room on the 13th floor. However, there was noting really of note to see at that height from that room at least. I would have preferred dark drapes to block the sun rather than the light colored blinds being used. I needed to wear my blindfolds. Pillows were too thin and not fluffy. Bed was slightly firmer than I would have preferred. I didn't sample breakfast. I brought my electric hotplate and my turka to make turkish coffee and my juicer to make fresh oranges. (I brought the coffee from Turkey but the oranges from a cold store near the hotel.) I would award four tripadviser stars for transit and for use as a motel but only two tripadviser stars for tourism (where you would be reliant on taxis back and forth and there is nothing of great interest on the territory of the hotel - no private beach) - hence the award of three tripadviser stars. Overall feel of the hotel is like a four (not five) star hotel with rooms a bit cramped and with furniture and finishings starting to show their age.

    Outstanding staff

I live in Kuwait and had to move into a hotel for a week due to building work in my home. I can genuinely say I have never encountered service on this level before in Kuwait. The hotel may not be the most luxurious in Kuwait but the staff are by far the best. Helpful, professional and consistently friendly. The suite I was in was kept immaculate and the view was one of the best in the city. The location is perfect as you are literally on the beach and just a couple of minutes taxi drive to Salmiya. I throughly recommend it.
