    Glam & Fabulous

From the moment my husband & I arrived, the experience was over the top! At check in Mayra noticed that I had just celebrated my birthday. Surprise...a gift of scrumptious chocolates were delivered to our room! Leslie Sedovia was our host & service was absolutely exceptional! We thoroughly loved the suite, the view, the restaurants & the Chandelier Lounge....total GLAM!!!

    Incredibly Authentic!

We did not stay the night or eat here but spent at least an hour walking through and enjoying the splendor of this really beautiful old hotel. The furniture in the parlor and bar is unbelievable. All the doors have the original porcelain knobs and its just incredible! Go see this beauty!!

    Not a great experience

We chose this hotel on the basis of the many good reviews on Tripadvisor. Reading them again after our three night stay we are truly wondering whether they are referring to the same hotel. Ok we understood that this is a historic property with no in-room frills such as a TV which was not a problem for us although we did miss a tea and coffee facility. But the main issue is one of cleanliness - the whole place could really do with a thorough clean. Our bedroom floor was worn and very grubby - so much so that we didnt walk on it in bare feet. It hadnt been mopped for a very long time! The bathroom fittings are worn and old - yes we get the novelty of pull-chain flush but an old worn wooden toilet seat - really? There were discarded bits and pieces - tissues and things - from previous occupants of the room on the floor around the free standing bath and they remained undisturbed by the cleaner throughout our stay. The furnishings in the bedroom were old with heavily stained covers which were very uninviting to sit on and the public areas looked shabby and grubby. Fortunately the bedding was clean and the bed comfortable which is about the only good thing we can say about our room. We might have raised these issues had there been anyone to raise them with but theres no reception, nobody on duty at breakfast (which by 9.15 was just a few cakes and some lukewarm water to make tea so we went out) and self checkout. Dinner - which we didnt try - is finished, the bar closed, the whole place locked up and the staff gone by 9pm - it really did feel sad and neglected. You can take the authentic vintage ambience too far and for us this was a poor experience we wouldn't want to repeat. The Cosmopolitan certainly didnt deliver the elegantly appointed accommodation that was promised.

    I love staying here!

This historic hotel is great. I enjoy the free parking and being right in Old Town so I can wander around in the evenings to shop and eat and then just climb the stairs to my room (there is an elevator) when I'm done. I love history, so the thick adobe walls, high ceilings, opulent curtains and overall richness of experience is great. Rooms are comfortable and old fashioned. No phones, fridges or TVs, but those would be so out of place here! I come for the ambience, not the news. The complimentary breakfast of coffee, milk, juice, scones, yogurt, fruit and cereal gets you going for a great day ahead. My goal is to stay in each unique room over several visits; I think I'm 4 down and 7 to go? Something like that. Can't wait for my next visit to San Diego to enjoy another stay.
