Service went above and beyondStayed here for two nights. Great location, free parking and great breakfast. Rooms were very clean. The receptionist went above and beyond to make our stay. Really enjoyed it! sorry to hear the hotel is closing in October, would definitely return, thank you.

End of its life, but Manager service still good until the end.We had booked to stay in this hotel on 23rd September 2019. We booked a few months before this and reading the reviews at the time and looking at the online photos of the hotel, we were really looking forward to our stay. The night before we were due to leave, I thought I would just take a quick look at latest reviews, only to find that they were terrible, people were asking for refunds and moving hotels. It transpired that the hotel is actually closing at the end of September, we would have been one of the last guests there. Obviously we were concerned and wanted to cancel. So I rang the hotel direct and spoke to a lady called Camilla, she was so polite and understanding and said that they had only found out a week before that the hotel was closing. She told me how to contact booking.com and get things sorted. I did that and got things sorted and managed to book another hotel, although it took about 3 hours as everywhere was very booked up. When we actually arrived in Torquay, we took the time to walk to the hotel, out of interest as to what it is actually like. It really has seen better days, very run down and smelly, nothing like the pictures. I am sure it was beautiful in its hay day, but now it really does need to be demolished and another one built, which is what is happening. I was lucky to meet Camilla in person on the day we visited and she was absolutely lovely, she was on the phone to customers when we walked in and was so professional, polite and friendly. I told her who I was and thanked her for her help and wished her lots of luck for the future. I hope that someone [employer] sees this ladies talent and employs her, she made what could have been a disaster for us, manageable and with a positive outcome. Thank you Camilla [hope I spelt your name right]

Raised to the groundThis hotel is, sadly, going to be raised to the ground any day now (written October 2019). There is no doubt it has seen finer days. There is no doubt the new hotel that will be bulit to replace it will be fantastic. This will help pull up the existing Torquay hotel standards, I truly expect and certainly hope. Remembered: the Reps that called, the February Trade Fairs, the Christmas & New Year Programmes, Family Holidays (when there was such a thing in Torquay), The Chess Week, Young Farmer's weekends (Help), visiting Rotarians, Libraries Conferences, Conferences, and Weddings.....hopefully all remembered with 'rose tinted glasses', as happy days in an era long gone. The Round Room Restaurant, later the Orchid Restaurant and used as a Bingo Room, small Wedding Reception Room(mine too). Room 60 and Room 8, my favourites. Once Phyllis Court, later the Corbyn Head Hotel, and now a sad shell. An American lady once called the pool a puddle. There used to be cigarette dispensing machines in the foyer. A telephone box on the landing above Reception. The laundry. The Housekeepers Room. The Garages - what lurked there? An electrician that treated it like the Forth Bridge..ie...round and round, wiring and lighting for ever more. The Chef (Phil). The Night Staff - long gone. The Restaurant Manager (Tony). This is turning into a book. Goodbye x

DemolishedStayed before with mixed reviews. Took a look while staying around the corner and found it to demolished just rubble on the floor. If you find it on any site for booking please dont . There will be a new and better hotel coming in the future and is promised to be much better. Hopefully worth the wait.
