Great quiet place for rest and sightseeng in the east CreteWe spend two weeks in the late may in Coralli Beach Apartments. The hotel is chosen, relying on the recommendation of a travel agent. And we were very happy because this place is ideal for independent travelers (including travellers with children). The hotel is small, very homely. Each room has a living room, which can be used as a bedroom for children, kitchenette with fridge, sink, cooking facilities and tableware, as well as a spacious balcony for dining outdoors. The hotel provides parking for rental cars. In front of the hotel: two swimming pools. One of them (round), small and perfect for kids, and the second has depth from 1 m to 1,8 m. The hotel has free wi-fi (wireless internet), so bring your laptop or iPad :) But if not, there is one computer for public use. In addition, the hotel has inexpensive, but good bar with summer terrace. The people, who works in the bar, are always nice and ready to give valuable advice. Good range of drinks: from different types of coffee and soft drings to the Cretan wine, draft or bottled beer or a traditional Greek drink ouzo. Prices in the bar lower than the average in the town. On Saturdays, the owner of the hotel organises a bar-barbecue party. In the evening he grills various meats, and his wife makes salads, sauces and Greek appetizers like tzatziki. And then everybody sing their favorite songs at karaoke. It's a great fun! Kokkini Hani town differs from the surrounding resorts because it has pretty quiet life. At the same time, it is easy to go by bus or car to Heraklion (30 minutes) or to a very lively Malia or Hersonissos (20 minutes) with a lot of night clubs, bars ans parties. To the nearby towns you can get by tourist "train", whig goes three times a day. But cheaper and faster way to go by intercity KTEL buses, which come every half hour from early morning until late at night. Bus stop is 500 m from the hotel. It is called Vasileos or 7. You can ask the owner of the hotel, he will explain how to get there. I also would like to mention the hospitality of the owner, Dimitrios. He is always ready to help, to show and tell anything: where a supermarket with the largest range of products, taverns with quality food, how to get to any place on the island. He knows Crete very good and can tell where to go for signhseeng. He seems well informed and able to answer absolutely any questions. We were very pleased by his care about the guests: he regularly asked if everything was good. In the next house to the Coralli there is small supermarket with the most of products for everyday needs, including fruits. Big Spar supermarket is about a 15 minute walk. But if you do not want to cook yourself, right next to the hotel there is a taverna with a good-quality Cretan cuisine and a huge multi-page menu. And, you can order by phone fast food like burger or gyros, with the delivery to the hotel bar, it is not expensive at all. Across the street from the hotel - a small beach with deck chairs and sun umbrellas. Their use is free for hotel guests. The sea there is amazingly clean and clear, fine sandy beach, entering to the water is very smooth. If you want beach activities - something a little farther along the coast there is a large beach where you can rent jet skis, go for a ride on "banana", etc. I can not mention the fact that half an hour walk from the hotel is absolutely stunning CreteAquaruim! This is the biggest aquarium in the Mediterranean Sea, with 2,000 species of animals inhabiting the sea, very modern, with interactive services and audio-guides in a lot of languages. So, I heartily recommend Coralli Beach all! This is a great quiet place for rest and sightseeng in Crete.

Recommended for the wonderful hospitality. The Coralli Beach Apartments is actually spelt Corali with one L . A family run apartment hotel (one of Jimmys Group Hotels best viewed on Facebook) where everyone really is family; husband and wife Dimitrios and Renata, nephew Jorges and young daughter Zoe. Not forgetting Charlie, a one year old Chihuahua who thinks hes a much bigger puppy than he is. The accommodation (ours was 309) is not new but large and freshly decorated. Basic, the kitchen area containing fridge, 2-ring electric hob, sink, was in one quarter of the lounge that had dining table and chairs plus two divan beds/sofas. There was a bath/shower room, and twin-bedded bedroom. The balcony had chairs and a table plus a fold up airer. The Hotel/apartments were well maintained inside and out, with a reasonably priced bar and seating area by the small swimming pool and paddling pool. The hotel has its own sun beds just across the road on a small sandy beach, plus by the pool. Free WiFi is available in and around the bar area. The "Tourist Train" stops right outside the Corali, on its tour. Dimitrios showed us great hospitality. He drove us to and from the nearest large supermarket to stock up on the heavy stuff (wine, water etc) on our first day. If he came across us walking back from the village he would give us a lift back to the hotel. He really couldnt do enough for us. The man is a diamond. He even invited us to his family barbecue. And to make sure our return to the airport was hitch-free, he phoned the transfer company without charge. There are two small supermarkets within yards of Corali but for a larger one (SPAR) you have a 20 minute walk into the main centre of Kokkini Hani with its bars, shops and restaurants. The fastest route we found is to take the beach pavement and go left. When the pavement ends, cross over and take the road that goes up and inland, at the top of the road you meet the pavement into town on your right. Weve stayed at the Sunset Beach Apartments twice before but due to refurbishment this re-opened after our stay. Demetrius now runs three hotels Sunset, Corali and Marilisu. Next door but one is the superb Taverna Ambrosia (check local restaurants on Tripadvisor) where we ate every evening delicious food. Highly recommended.

Extremely helpful staff, brilliant for money paid for it ... (part of Blue sky beach hotel)Small hotel, only one guy who was looking after it mostly, however other staff (for cleaning) came from 'sister' hotel nearby. The food was OK, however occasionally when we came later, the food was just not there as they run out, however, we could go to Blue sky beach hotel for a food as they have served exactly same options. Same as with the beach- we have been going roughly 100m to the beach in front of their hotel as it was much better and also sunbeds free of charge. It was definitely worth for the money we have paid for it! Definitely a budget hotel!!!

Couple in CoralliFirst of all, I need to say that given to the prices of the rooms in this little hotel, you can't expect a 5* experience. Our first look at our apartment was kinda disappointing though - shabby equipment, muddy footprints in the bathroom, terrible mattresses, flaking paint. The air conditioning started leaking water after approx 10 minutes. The apartmnet had this smell of an unaired, old, wet room. However, we only spent our nights there so we didn't care that much, We had known we weren't booking the most luxurious hotel on Crete. The housekeeping could have been better as even though the lady came every other day, the floors were never even swept and the bathroom never cleaned. At the time of our stay there, the hotel was run by only one (!!!!) person - George, who was always nice and helpful, eve though he must have had only a few hours of sleep and then spent his entire day in the hotel helping his customers. The food was brought from elsewhere and I was really worried about the quality but it was delicious! The variety might be small for some but I found it plentiful. There were always two kinds of meat or a pasta sause with meat, loads of cooked and fresh vegetables, then some fries, mashed potatoes, rice, always pasta. Especially meals from ground/minced meat were delicious, coming from a person who doesn't enjoy meat that much. There was a salad bar with Feta cheese, Greek salad and more. Desserts were kind of poor, only watermelon, sometimes oranges, apples (sliced) or some pudding I never tried. As always with all inclusive, the juices/soft drinks were from a concentrate. There was a tap with beer, white wine and red wine. YOu could also get ouzo and raki in the evening. The other hotel down the road cooperating with Coralli - Blue Sky - offered some drinks in their pool bar at the evening - never tried, they were 4 euros I think. The beach in front of Blue Sky was quite good, you had to wake up early to put a towel on the sunbeds to have a place for the rest of the day. The water is crystal clear though and the water is shallow so it's kids friendly. There's also a small pool in Coralli but it did't seem that inviting to me. You can also use the pool in Blue Sky which looked a lot nicer.

Shabby, poor, unhygienic. Avoid.Despite the mixed reviews, we gave this place a go as it appeared to be good value for an all inclusive hotel. However, you really do get what you pay for, and even that seems expensive in hindsight. The staff were helpful and pleasant at all times, apart from one stony face young guy in the restaurant who was extremely robotic and never spoke, avoided eye contact and did not smile back. On our last day we had a midnight flight home, but they let us keep the room past check-out, until late evening at no extra cost. Rooms were extremely basic and many things were old, dirty, broken or damaged. We moved room after the first night because the towels and bed linen were dirty, the shower and air con were both broken. In the second room, the shower was again broken but the air con worked, but only after we had to ask twice for the missing remote to be able to turn it on. The toilet kept leaking sewage every time you flushed it. Missing shower curtain resulted in a soaked floor. We kept asking for more and more spare towels each day just to keep on top of it ourselves. My daughters first impression was that she was in a prison cell. That says it all. The hot food was OK on some days, poor on other days, terrible on some days. I loved all the Greek salad and fresh healthy non-cooked food options. The real down side here was the cooked food. It was often luke-warm or just cold. Variety was not brilliant and it was often bland. Several times those in our room avoided it, we either ordered take out or we went next door to the Ambrosia Taverna or to the Avra Restaurants. After eating out, we never really wanted to eat at Corali again. We did try, but it was then just off-putting in comparison. The hot drinks were limited to coffee, the only tea available was herbal. The coffee was really nice. There was also a good supply of fountain drinks and orange juice. Alcohol was local things. Cretan beer, Cretan Red/Cretan White. The beer was nice and my wife liked the white wine. We both thought the red wine was sour/sharp, like it was still fermenting or just not ready for serving. There was a bar with some local made spirits available too. If you want all inclusive, please spend another £100 per person per week and go somewhere else. It is a false economy to go with cheap options like this hotel. You only end up spending more money eating out. For the price we paid, including buying our own food, we could have gone half board somewhere more expensive and saved ourselves the grief.
