An Interesting VisitA bit of a mixed bag. Weve been staying at this hotel for the past two years when we visit family. We typically stay in the rooms with king size bed and a spa. The rooms are old but they look decent: good tv and a/c system but broken curtains and chipped shower doors. The beds arent the MOST comfortable but they are fine for a couple of nights. The WiFi is a bit hit and miss; its unsecured as others have said and our iPhones couldnt connect to it although the MacBook had no issues. The view is great, and if you leave the door open you can even hear the shipping in action. Honestly you probably cant get a better view or location as it is in the perfect spot, right next to all the cafes. We would have liked to order breakfast but you needed to submit your order by 8PM on a little paper form to reception. In this day and age of automated everything it would be good to digitise this so that visitors could order breakfast at whatever hour they return from sightseeing. This year however things were a bit...off. Upon check out the lady at the front desk (who I remember from last year) was nice enough to allow me to skip the line as we just needed to return the key. She did a quick check to see everything was fine and I was ready to head out the door when she tells me theres a food order that needs to be paid. This was odd as we come here during the Christmas holidays and get forced fed until we burst at the grandparents houses so we had no need to order food at the hotel. I proceeded to tell her exactly that, however, for a couple of seconds she was adamant (and in a very passive aggressive manner) that they delivered it to our room. I didnt know what to tell her besides Im sorry but we didnt order any food. I dont know if someone else that stayed at the hotel was trying to be sneaky and charge their food to another room that they noticed were out everyday (as we were) but it caused a bit of awkwardness with the lady at the front desk. Finally to her defence, she took the food off the bill. And then I was once again ready head on out when she tells me I still owe the room. Now, I know this may be my own misunderstanding, however, all the hotels Ive stayed at in the past have automatically charged the credit card on file during your stay or at least upon check out. So I was confused as to why she was again asking for actual payment right then and there when she had the details ready for her to charge on the computer. I told her to charge the credit card on file. She got a bit flustered and said, Ive interrupted the people in front of you because you said you only needed to hand back the key! To which I said, Yes, I thought the same. So the lady relayed back the information on the computer and I agreed, Yes, please charge that one. She grumbled an okay, and turned away with without pausing for a breath when back to the people she let me skip in front. I am genuinely confused as to how any of that came to be. For one, how did my room get charged for food that we never ordered or received and two, an extremely easy process of returning the key and charging my credit card on file turned into a little sour exchange from the front desk lady. I understand from when she was speaking to the people in front on me that she seems over worked due to, being too old for this, but the young people in this town dont want to work. So, all I can say is I hope she gets to rest soon, because it seems like she herself may need a holiday as her fuse was quite short and from the way she was bad mouthing previous customers to the people in front of me, she might be a little bit over this hotel work.

Overnight comfortNice big clean room for overnight stay. Great view of the harbour and privacy allowing us to open sliding doors in the room. Lovely dinner at the restaurant, enhanced by a fabulous Ethiopian-Australian staff member. Her gracious manner combined with loads of good humor made our evening. And well done chef. Thx.

Great staff, Nice ViewWe loved our stay over the weekend. I took my partner away for his birthday because his favourite place to fish is in Portland, we travelled from Ballarat and the lady at the front reception was super nice, fantastic customer service! The hotel cleaners were great to chat to, we didnt eat at the hotel as the menu was mainly seafood but the lady at the reception was super helpful and recommended us to go to the thistle bar and bistro next door, their food was amazing! Really enjoyed our stay, we stayed in one of the top spa rooms, very nice view and super clean rooms! The pool was very clean and super refreshing in the morning. We had a very relaxing stay, definitely will be returning when we come back to portand! Highly recommend! :)

The room rate doesn't match the experienceFriendly staff and many eating options in the motel complex. Parking off street, pool clean, gardens well kept. Rooms are clean and large, with comfortable lounge chairs but my room needs a new mattress - I didn't find it comfortable at all. Street front rooms can be a bit noisy at times - but the trade-off was a nice balcony area looking out across the bay. Ate at the bistro - food was ok and service was just ok. No safety chains on inside of room doors - and because my door was hard to latch, I awoke during the night to find my door half open - no wonder I was cold! The exterior of the motel needs refurbishment. The room rate is at the high end for what it is. Would I stay again? Probably not.
