EMVLOG
The saga continues... Ghetto hotels in JapanGhetto budget business hotels in Japan. The saga continues... This time I had a chance to stay at Comfort Hotel in Nagano. I dont know why I always choose such budget hotels for business. Maybe because I feel it is a waste to stay at a five star hotel when your only going to use it for sleeping and your out in the morning early the next day. I just want a hotel that will be close to my business matters the next morning so location is my first priority. This hotel passed in the location category. It is about a 4 minute walk from the JR Nagano Station. Very convenient. I stayed on a Monday and the price was 5000 yen including breakfast. If you can picture a Motel Six in the boondocks in America; this will be the Japanese version as far as looks and maintenance goes. Ive been to other Comfort Hotels in Japan but they were not this bad in the building maintenance category. It is in need of renovations and that is putting it lightly. The service was actually very good though. I was supposed to check in around 18:00pm but I ended up checking in at 21:30pm. I got a call from the front desk on my smartphone around 21:00pm asking if I was okay. It is nice that they had not forgotten about my reservation. What surprised me the most about this hotel was the breakfast buffet. It is very good for the price your paying. The German potatoes they had on a hot plate were delicious.

Decent hotelDecent hotel downtown Nagano, close to the central railway station. Small rooms, very clean, good air-conditioning and internet. Basic breakfast, both Japanese ans European food available. Friendly and helpful reception personnel. Convenient for business travelers.

weekend in NaganoAccommodations were first class and was within a short drive to the Olympic village which featured a museum of the winter Olympic Games and included videos of most of the events. You could easily spend half a day touring the facilities. Shopping and restaurants were within walking distance of the hotel.

Rough around the edgesI stayed here for 4 nights in November and booked it because it's close to the station. It was also quite cheap (£180 for the 4 nights). The welcome was warm on arrival and every time I went in or out. They knew who I was...never had to give my name or room number. Was probably the only gaijin staying at that time. My room was small as I expected and the bed was comfortable. It had a window that opened but since I appeared to be in the path of a kitchen extractor fan I didn't open it as it stank my room out and it was really noisy. The room was clean but very worn and dated. Everything in the hotel was seriously worn out...really rough around the edges. There was a free breakfast provided, but it finished early so I never made it down in time (I was on holiday after all). If I were in Nagano again, I might stay again but would look at other options first.
