  oTHER COMMENTS AREN'T WRONG, BUT.l.

  My wife and I stayed five nights. Exceptionally clean, friendly staff, fair breakfasts. The location was excellent with several restaurants on the same side of the block. I thought the food in the Azerbaijan place a few doors to the left was excellent and the lamb kabobs were cooked on a charcoal grill. The Chinese place next door was a bit iffy but fun. We really thought the place was great and will return on our next visit. If you really want to experience Petersburg, this is a good location. The noise could be a problem on the street side but after the 2nd night we didn't hear it.

  Decent value, wouldn't have found entrance without out taxi driver walking us to the door!

  A bit noisy due to location but walking distance from the sights. Had to relinquish passports temporarily which we didn't know but got them back within a half hour. A little diffict to find, have to go through A gate into the back to find the entrance but there is a sign in Russian on the street. Ladies at the desk were friendly and spoke fair English, which, turns out, is harder to find than you might think. Room was clean, they call you to bring you breakfast at whatever time you like. For the price, this was a good choice for us- a little noisy for sleeping.

  very operative

  I organized a trip for my parents. I chose this B&B based on trip advisor recommendations. And now as a thanks to this B&B and its staff (as well as to many of the trip advisor recommenders), I would like to post here my appraisal for the way this hotel staff coordinated everything (from pick-up to registration and other services). The admins were quite operative responding to all of my inquiries concerning the prices, the service, any detail you can imagine of (yeah I was quite scrupulous :) My parents were pleased with the big tidy room and clean bathroom, nice service, good food in the mornings. The location is also a great one. Once again I express my thanks for being so operative.

  A great place to stay

  We travelled to St Petersburg from Helsinki on the ferry to take advantage of the 72 hour visa free rule. We stayed both nights in Columb Hotel and are very glad we chose it. It wasn't that hard to find, large sign on street with gate into courtyard. The sign was in Cyrillic but it was obvious. Entry door was also signed. Receptionists all spoke English well enough to help when we asked. Location was good with a short walk to many tourist attractions. Suburb seemed a little rundown but we didn't feel uncomfortable walking around even late at night. The room was large and very clean. Our room faced onto the courtyard and was very quiet. Linen and towels were good. We had 2 single beds pushed together instead of a double bed, not sure why, but we didn't care so didn't say anything. The weather was warm the days we were there and we found the air conditioning great. Bathroom had a shower over a tub with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Wifi connection was constant and high quality. Breakfast was fine - frankfurters 1st day, chicken bilini 2nd day with bread, butter, cream cheese, juice, yoghurt, sweet muffin and tea or coffee. We didn't care about the size of the breakfast room, we were only there to eat. Several restaurants nearby but we didn't try them. We found a corner store to buy water and softdrinks and a bakery where we bought various pastries for lunches. Many shop people can speak a little English. We would recommend Columb Hotel and would definitely stay again.

  Lovely place in the lovely city

  We were in Saint-Petersburg over summer, and needed a place close to the city centre and all the main museums. The hotel is max 20 minutes walk from Nevsky ave, and you don't have to walk anywhere dodgy, only main streets. Staff of the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Girls on reception advised on the places to have a meal, when to go best to the theatre, which exhibitions to attend etc. Breakfasts were always nice, filling and fairly simple. Rooms are pretty big for such a small hotel, and very clean. We spent a bit more than 2 weeks in the hotel, and couldn't criticise the staff or the hotel itself for anything. Definitely recommend it for no matter why you are in Saint-Petersburg, whether it's a family or business trip.
