  Great choice for stay in Tateshina

  Hotel exceeded my expectations. Although it was celebrating it's 23rd anniversary the hotel felt fresh and must have been renovated. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The restaurant is pricey bit we chose the fusion Japanese style restaurant in a separate building. Also not cheap bit well worth it and the nomihodai menu for 1,890 meant we could try all 7 types of local sake they had. The breakfast buffet was packed with fresh local vegetables and juice and the main breakfast dishes such as the omlette with fresh local eggs were all delicious. The bath is not pure onsen water but still pleasant. This is not a 5 star place, but if you are looking for something above average with friendly service and non-commercialized feel, this is a great choice.

  Tateshina: Rome Built in a Day

  Situated right above Lake Megami, and near some small ski areas, the Colosseum is as scenic a winter spot as one could want, with white birch and even a wine hot spring. Throw in excellent service and huge, modern rooms and this is a great getaway for work, family or romance. I imagine in summer the hiking, swimming and fishing must be even as great a draw. Caveat: I did not pay the bill, so cannot estimate value, but experience was excellent and would recommend the stay.

  Excellant staff with exceptional services

  Hotel staff are extremely helpful. What they did was from their hearts and not requested by us. Laundry facilities are free of charge including washing machine+dryer. They are located in smoking room. So prepare to get some cigarette exhaust and smell if you stay in the room watching your laundry.

Guests can enjoy the excellent cuisine served by the famous chef of this hotel while seeing White birch forest over the glass. Especially the food which uses the local fresh and superior quality vegetables is very tasty, and even celery is sweet. Because this hotel keeps local-produced wine as well as import wine, we can taste a lot of wine. Guests also can enjoy ski in winter season. It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the hotel to the nearest ski resort (Shirakaba-Kogen Ski resort). Visitors can rent all clothes and gears at the shop in Ski resort. Especially this ski resort is popular with kids because the snow is powder and the Quad Lift and Gondola are easy to get on and off.
