    Amongst the vineyards..

Collelungo reveals itself amongst the vineyards, at the end of a pretty rural (think "bush" for Aussies) driveway. We arrived around 6pm and were warmly greeted and shown around the property by Fabiola. It was our first time in Tuscany, and we had our son and his girlfriend with us (24) so were keen to have everything work out. We stayed in an upstairs apartment which I consider to be quintessentially Italian. Despite us expecting "luxury apartment" as advised on our booking, I consider it more a 3 star than 5. Homely, though nothing fancy about the furnishings or decoration. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen and small lounge area. It was really hot while we were there for 3 days, however, other than night times where you couldn't open a window easily (mosquitos), we didn't miss air-conditioning. We had good luck with the pool as it was not crowded at all. Fabiola kindly delivered croissants to the room for breakfast one morning and as charming as that sounds (croissants fresh from the village) the reality was a bit different in that they were definitely not fresh that morning. Didn't have the breakfasts there as while EU10 is not expensive, it works out to be when you x 4 and factor the Aussie exchange rate. The gorgeous old town of Castellina is about 10 mins away by car, with a few cafes open from 8am and plenty of places for dinner or drinks if you like. From memory, around 45mins to San Gigmiano, an hour to Sienna and 50mins to Florence so day trips are comfortably achieveable. Loved waking up, throwing open the windows and being right in the middle of a working vineyard with all that you'd expect from that image. All told, we had a really great time here and took advantage of the small bar and honour system with wines and prosecco (super reasonable). I would recommend this as a reasonable, authentic place to stay if you're visiting the area.

    Heaven in Chianti

Have stayed here 4 times in last 9 years, and the reasons dont change. You would be hard pressed to find a more classily beautiful place. Set amongst vineyards, the villa rooms are just lovely. Spotlessly clean, great beds, very very roomy with additional outside spaces that can be used day or night - a great place to meet fellow travellers for a wine or two ( the wines this winery produces are really lovely ). The staff are extremely helpful. Fabiola has been here for my last 2 visits - she should be teaching this industry about great service and what that means. She is super helpful, super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. She is the best at what she does in Italy, by a mile. The villa is close to Castellina, but you will need a car to get around - and there are plenty of villages/towns nearby to visit. Both Sienna and Florence are very close by. The area is breathtaking in its beauty, the accomodation at Collelungo just enhances the whole Chianti experience. You dont need to look elsewhere, its just perfect here.

    Collelungo a must in Tuscany

Have just returned for a second visit to Collelungo. First was 10 years ago and revisiting was a must. It is just as beautiful as our previous experience. Fabiola is the most hospitable hostess you will ever encounter. She is amazing and Collelungo is very fortunate to have her. The room we had was spacious and very clean. Other amenities include a pool, a bar and sitting area, laundry and amazing views of acres of rolling hills and vineyards. Castellina is a short drive away as is Siena and Florence. Many other hills towns are close by. Wifi is available but best in the bar area. Hope to return once again. Collelungo will call you back.

    Six nights

Booked 1 night at Collelungo and ended up staying 6 nights because we liked it so much. Amazing location surrounded by wine fields, only accessible by a dirt road. Complete privacy. The service from our host Fabiola was impeccable. Without a doubt a place to recommend. We will return!
