Xiamen Stop Over StayThe hotel had a grand lobby but they only had one small elevator that provided service for everyone, to be fair it didn't seem to be a problem when we were there. The room itself is as pictured here, with two beds and a spacious bathroom. The pros: close to the airport [taxi ride cost 18RMB], the staff speak English, they give you bottled water for free and they have a blowdryer in the bathroom; the cons: one of the beds had a very hard mattress, there is an air of disrepair and neglect about the place.

A solid hotel best designed for transit/layover guests and not full-serivce guestsThis is a review of my one-night stay (22JUL17) at the HMYL Hotel. I stayed here as a benefit of flying Xiamen Airlines (MF) on an international booking whereby those who have longer/overnight connections in XMN (Xiamen) are given a free hotel stay, rather than remaining at the airport. As such I did not pay (hotel included in airfare) for this stay I only paid for taxi fare to and from the airport (between RMB 17 and RMB 23) as well as any incidentals I chose to purchase while at the hotel. Location: Its on a semi-busy street, just off a main thruway, that hosts other medium sized hotels and several high-volume restaurants that stay open until past midnight. There are several places to eat, drink and do some basic shopping within walking distance of the hotel. It is about a :15 taxi ride from the airport in off-peak times. It is easy to find a taxi without the needs to call or arrange for one in advance. The hotel: I would classify this hotel as a limited-service hotel. The building appears to be around 10 years old and in overall good general state of repairs on the outside and inside. Visually everything is in good order and repair. Its a smaller hotel and that strikes you the moment you walk inside. The lobby has, at best, 10 chairs in which to sit and wait and aside from a few deserted tour and snack shops inside; there are no services on offer. The hotel does offer bag check/left luggage service while you are a registered guest. Note that there is no formal bell staff/porter service. If you have large or heavy bags, you should plan on having to move them into/out of the hotel and to/from your room yourself. There is only one lift/elevator and requires a valid room key-card to active. Free hotel-wide Wi-Fi is available with generally acceptable speed. Check-in: I arrived at nearly 22:30 and therefore the reception was empty. I was checked in efficiently passport scanned (Chinese law requires hotels to register you), airline hotel voucher taken and processed and my room key card given. I was assigned a room on the 3rd floor. The duty staff had very limited English skills, but was more than ample to complete check-in. (Score: 8/10) The Room: My room 2-bed room was spotlessly clean and overall in excellent condition. In-room amenities include a flat screen TV, many electrical outlets (good for those who need to recharge devices), double windows (I guess it gets quite cold in the winter) which limits noise, good drapes that keep the room reasonably dark in the daytime, hot water/tea/coffee set, room slippers, full-sized closet, 2 sitting/work chairs and small-ish working desk space. The TV features an all-Chinese language interface and very little non-Chinese programming. There is a wall-mounted guest-controllable thermostat. There were a few pieces of hotel stationary, but little else. There is no room service. Bathroom: Like the bedroom, the bathroom was large and spotlessly cleans (a big deal for me). Nice wash basin, modern toilet (with several complementary toiletries) and stand-up shower. The shower has the option of being a classic angled showered or more modern overhead rain shower. Water pressure was excellent and water temperature ran from very hot to cold. (Score: 8.5/10) Bed: The bed was, for me, an excellent balance between too soft and too hard. In Asia, I find beds tend to fall on the more firm or even hard side of the spectrum, but in this case it was still soft but provided good support. It was topped with a faux-feather duvet and cover sheet. While I was quite tired, I slept well and woke feeling pretty good. (Score: 8/10) Overall: For me, this is a good hotel IF you dont need or wont use any of the more classic hotel amenities like in-house dining, room service, fitness center, etc. This would be (and probably why Xiamen Airlines chose it) an ideal airport-layover hotel between flights or to stay the night before your flight. Its not fancy and on the smaller side of things. But, for me, in the areas that really count cleanliness, room and bed comfort, it scored well. (Overall: 8/10) (note that I rate based on similar style or type of hotels)

cheap motelAirline put me here for 1 night due to my delayed flight, I assume it's probably their cheapest room that I stayed in. There are banks, stores, local restaurants around; free WiFi ; my room was dark and dirty, not-so-comfy bed. And the airplane noise starts from early in the morning.

Nice supriseWe came to this hotel because we had a long transfer in the airport, we have been waiting for, that when it is free, it will be much worse, but the opposite is true. Very simply but nicely furnished room. You will find everything you need. And breakfast are also free. Next Time we will use transfer hotel also ;)
