    ANNIVERSARY

This place is like no other, We stayed two days for our anniversary. The property overall is beautiful. The room was huge (RIVER SUITE) and the furnishing were the best of the best. Room had a Fireplace, The Jetted Tub Was Huge and We could've gotten at least Four People in the Shower. Parking is a little bit of a problem when the RIVER SHACK is open. Wish I could review the restaurant but it was closed for lunch and dinner while we were there (TOLD THAT AFTER WE CHECKED IN) It was open for breakfast BUT ONLY for a hour (Between 8 and 9) Little in the pricey side, But you only have your 35th Anniversary Once and we had a great one. Our stay was New Years Eve and the next night. Loved The Place. and The View was Great watching the fireworks over the river.

    A beautiful old Florida jewel

My daughter and I traveled to Orange Park on Tuesday to take her beloved cat to the Pet Cure Clinic for radiation treatment. The wonderful folks there gave us a list of nearby hotels and mentioned that Club Continental was a favorite among their clients. So later in the day we drive over to the Club Continental and discovered a beautiful, tranquil spot directly on the St. Johns River. We got suite 105, on the ground floor of a two story building with River views. What a delight! There was a separate living room with a sofa and antique writing desk, a compact kitchenette and a large, beautifully appointed bedroom with a king size bed, glass table and chairs, and best of all, a roomy deck with table and chairs for admiring the lovely view. While in the room, with the drapes pulled aside the large sliders, it felt as if we were on a cruise ship! The bathroom was large and featured both a whirlpool tub (sadly, the button for the jets was missing) and a separate shower. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous, and feature beautiful swimming pools, stately Spanish moss trees and delightful ponds, one with colorful koi fish and sunbathing turtles! It was too cold to swim, but we spent some relaxing time by the pool, reading. It reminded me of a visit to Beverly Hills, but much less haughty and far more affordable! We enjoyed the delicious breakfast in the riverfront dining room, and were impressed with the setting, the food and the friendly and efficient server...not sure of her name, but shes a keeper! There are also tennis courts and a cute old pre civil war building now used as a tavern... it looked cozy inside with a glowing fireplace. If I was a local, Id seriously consider joining the private club here. As a visitor, I would absolutely return in the future. So superior to the sterile modern hotels we could have chosen, and the rate seemed reasonable considering the quality of the room, the beautiful setting and friendly staff. I only wish they had a hot tub on the premises! Even our cat, Katahdin, enjoyed her stay here!

Should have been relaxing, far from it

Not the relaxing stay I had so looked forward to. Far from it, I've been here just 1 day so far, last night managed less than 5 hours of sleep due to something very loud going on in the room above. Tonight its the bar next door. Music so loud that I struggle to hear the TV and Im due to stay another 3 nights but doubt I can make it. I need sleep! The hotel told me to call the bar, I asked if they knew if the music would be on tomorrow ie Saturday and was told sure.... asked had anyone ever complained before he said yeah you are in the worst room for that. When I rang back to ask if he knew if there was music tomorrow night there was no answer, tried a few times. luckily we have mobile phones nowadays and surprise surprise he answered that call. Im right next to the extremely loud HVAC and to an extremely loud bar. Noise from above, beside and next door. Fun times. The setting is beautiful, right along the St Johns River, beautiful trees and grounds. They have a small restaurant and for some bizarre reason breakfast served for 1 hour only from 8am to 9am. Dinner is v nice but not served over the weekend. Staff in restaurant really kind but other than that there is no one on site to help you with noise issues, and for me that is a big no no. I've been moved here by my apartment managers whilst they do essential work so I needed a quiet stay and so far it has been anything but. I'd definitely recommend the hotel but please ensure you do not get room 101. The room I had was extremely clean, bravo to the housekeeping; shower was in the bathtub but has fantastic water pressure and there is plentiful thick fluffy towels. The rooms are in need of updating but only a cosmetics upgrade, new linens and pillows in keeping with their price range of an upper end hotel better lighting. Rethink of hours and availability for guests to utilise the beautiful dining areas. If they fix these things it will be perfect, the setting is like entering another world and with the growth that continues to come to this area they are well placed to gain from increasing amount of guests. I suppose I was treated badly as they thought I was some lucky kid getting a free room for a few nights so I didn't matter. Well I've been around somewhat and this is not cool at all. Far from it.

    Quaint Charm

I stayed in the Italian room for one night for a weekend getaway. The room itself was clean and had all the usual amenities, including some much appreciated bottles of water. The space and the grounds were charming and the surrounding neighborhood was very walkable (highly recommend the Urban Bean Coffeehouse which is a 10 minute walk away). Breakfast was an omelette bar, fresh fruit, and toast. There was a wedding party there and just due to the nature of the place, I felt like I wasnt able to properly explore the grounds without ending up photo-bombing wedding pictures. There was also more noise just because of the party atmosphere. This place is a wedding venue, so no fault of the hotels, but I would recommend checking with the hotel before booking if youre looking for a more quiet experience. I also ordered carryout dinner from the restaurant, and while I appreciated that they offered gluten free options AND carryout, the food was kind of meh (the potatoes were instant) and not really worth the price. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Club and would like to return with my mom for a middle of the week stay sometime in the near future.

    Lovely location some disappointing details

I stayed overnight in one of the few rooms that allows pets (and that, on a weekend, would be noisy as it is right next to a bar). Sadly, the person at the check in was NOT wearing a mask (despite the fact that I had called ahead to ensure that employees would be following precautions). The room itself had a fabulous viewbut the cleanliness was somewhat dubious. My dog and I found pieces of glass under the sofa and I found hair in the bathroom upon arrival. To me that is a cardinal sin. The property itself is in a beautiful setting and I can see how it would be ideal for weddings. I did not take advantage of breakfast and my take our dinner was not great. Overall, though I have to go again for business, I will stay elsewhere.
