Mrs HarrisonI have just stayed at the cliffemount hotel. And all I can say is that the staff Kimberley, Courtney & Sarah are doing a great job could not welcome us enough and nothing was to much trouble. The food was good and served hot and not much of a wait for the food to come to the table. I would highly recommend the hotel great stay Thankyou to everyone.

Pleasant stayStayed here for 2 nights to get away after a stressful few weeks. Wanted somewhere peaceful and relaxing and this was perfect. The view from our room over Runswick Bay was just exactly what we wanted. We didnt eat in the hotel apart from breakfast one morning and this was fine for what we paid. The hotel is a little tired looking in places and could do with some TLC but the view just makes up for it. Definitely return.

DisappointingWe made a return visit to this hotel only to be disappointed. The room felt tatty and in need of some TLC. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. The full English breakfast included poor quality ingredients which is such a shame when there are lovely locally sourced sausages and bacon in the area. Staff weren't particularly welcoming. We returned to the hotel because it isin a lovely location and I would have been prepared to pay more to stop there if the hotel invested in some improvements

Poor service and a loud beeping throughout the night. My partner and I arrived after 3pm as requested, and sat at reception for 10 minutes ringing the bell before I decided to try and track down someone we could sign in with. The room was good but we could hear a loud beeping coming from downstairs, every 3 seconds or so. When we went for dinner we were the only one's ordering food at that time, but weren't offered drinks at any stage, asked if our meal was ok, given the option to have salt/pepper/vinegar/any sauces. I did get up to ask but the door into the restaurant had been locked from the inside, meaning I would have to go all around the building to get into the bar again. We're not fussy people but my partner didn't eat his steak because he said it was underdone and soggy (soggy?). My salmon was tasty, but the broccoli it came with was so hard (not crunchy, hard). I can see how these things happen on a busy night, but at the time we were only one of three couples in the restaurant, and the other two were only having drinks. And the food isn't cheap. No-one came to offer us desert so in the end I did go around the building to try and track down a staff member for the second time that day. The guy behind the bar kindly said he'd bring it to us in our room. He was the only staff member I'd seen, and when I asked him about this I found out that he was the only person the hotel had put on their rota to cover bar staff, waiters, room service and to check guests in and out. So despite this one guy running around as best he could it was no wonder you had to go looking for staff - he was doing at least 4 people's jobs! As I was paying him for our food other guests were coming into the bar to say there was no-one to check them in, poor guy. The worst thing about the whole stay though was the beeping. It went on all night long. And I know other guests could hear it too because when I went to ask if it could be switched off, and was told 'no', the people behind me also sighed and left because they'd been waiting to ask the same thing. Apparently it was going off because the humidity had changed. In our room we could cover the sound somewhat with music in the evening, but it went on all through the night. We did not sleep well. I will say that Cliffemount is very much saved by it's location - we had an absolutely breathtaking view across Runswick Bay, and we had a balcony to enjoy it from too! And if you sit outside at the restaurant you can also appreciate the view when dining too. But for me it wasn't enough to redeem the fact that a hotel is somewhere that is supposed to provide you with a room where you'll be able to get a good night's sleep. I did try and contact Cliffmount before leaving this review on the only contact email I could find for them (info@cliffemounthotel.co.uk), but have received no response. Very disappointing.

Stunning views, poor serviceI really can't complain much - the setting and the room we're perfect. On a cliff, as the name would suggest, with stunning views and elegant furnishings, a stunning black gloss bathroom, a balcony (sadly too cold and windy to properly enjoy), what's not to love? Well, arriving to find the door locked and no staff around anywhere to check me in didn't make much of an impression. Calling the two numbers posted led to a dead line on one and a recording on the other. After driving four hours in poor weather not having a friendly greeting is bad enough, but finding no one present at all is worse. Once the young couple with dog had arrived from doing some grocery shopping in the village, they were happy to check me in, although that required a telephone call to the (absent) owners as they had only recently switched to the OYO reservation system. The room was indeed fabulous, the bed a wee bit squishy on the right side, and the trouser press set up where there was no outlet to connect it to. Sadly, the wifi signal in the room was non-existent, which earned further demerits in my mind. In the morning, I had not opted for breakfast due to several appointments in town, so I cannot comment on food. As it is off-season under Covid-19 travel restrictions, I felt that at £29, I had gotten an amazing bargain for my comfortable night, and the views the next morning nearly made up for the shortcomings mentioned. Having just watched Four in a Bed, I feel that the Cliffemount was robbed. Compared to the other properties shown, they clearly deserved a much better finish.
