Very Disappointing Stay!We stayed here 2 years ago for a Mountain Bike race at the lake and enjoyed the stay so thought we would come back. The hotel has really gone downhill in 2 years. Our room toilet had a leak and would not flush, most of the electrical plugs in the room were lose and the one behind the nightstand had no wall plate. The placement of the TV in the room was odd and low so it was hard to see from bed & hard to hear over the A/C unit. The Atrium and hallways to the rooms were kept at 80 degrees (we saw the unchangeable thermostat on the wall that read 80) which was almost overwhelming since it was 95 degrees outside. The Atrium near the bathrooms smelled like sewage (had to use that bathroom since our toilet didn't flush). The saving grace was indoor swimming however although online and their in-room brochure said the pool closed at 10pm, there was a sign on the door stating it closed at 8:00. Who closes the pool at 8:00pm, especially on the weekend and when hot outside (and inside)?! The Atrium was deserted and there is no way to play any of the games without walking back up to the front desk and asking for paddles, etc. At the free buffet, the staff was not very friendly and they had music blasting out of the kitchen to the point it was hard to hear the television while eating. The buffet was fine, standard hotel free breakfast. The front desk employee was wearing what looked like a bathing suit and flip flops, which is fine, it was hot, but in general, it wasn't very staffed and the staff they did have wasn't real professional. We were told all of the 1st floor rooms were booked however it really was deserted, the rooms were not occupied on the bottom floor (we checked at night & in the morning) so not sure why they were "holding" them. It really was disappointing, we won't be back. :(

Unresolved bad experienceThe manager and district manager of this Clarion Inn will not return my calls to help resolve an issue we had at this hotel with one of their employees. The management is very unprofessional and do not seem to care about a bad experience a guest had at their hotel. We have stayed at many of the Choice hotels over the years. We've never encountered such unprofessional management at other hotels we've stayed at. I do not recommend this hotel.

The BATES MOTEL of Elk City, OKThe only thing that could save this property would be Explosives and a Wrecking BALL!!!! You should be Embarrassed to have this property in your collection of "Choice Hotels"....Because of the Absolutely HORRIFYING Experience I endured at this property my CHOICE is to NEVER, EVER, Stay in a "Choice Hotel" property again!!! Staying here was like a combination of a TWILIGHT ZONE episode and the movie "The SHINING"!!!!! DISGUSTING Excuse for a "Hotel"...more like a "Flop House." Oh my...Where should I begin??? First of all, I arrived very early in the morning, much later than my planned arrival, due to complications in traveling from AZ; however I did call ahead and explained I would arrive much later than planned. I was greeted by a Front Desk Agent that was apparently totally befuddled and confused about where he even was at! I don't think he was aware that he was even at his "job." I suspected that he may have been under the influence of medication or drugs [most likely meth]...and I feel qualified to say this because I worked in the Hotel/Restaurant/Hospitality Industry for over 46 years and also worked as a Drug Counselor in NYC as an Urban Missions Grad Student. He was really a sad, pathetic case. He gave me two keys and some very poor directions to the room. I dragged two bags and a backpack and my small dog through what looked like an abandoned Airplane Hangar leftover from World War II...it was dark and creepy and had an unusual odor, actually a stench. When I got to the room the Keys didn't work!! I had to maneuver myself all the way back to the reception area [about a mile away] walking up and down stairwells where the carpet was literally BLACK from FILTH and years of guests and employees walking up and down them...again, there was that STENCH!!! I am sure the carpets had not been cleaned in over 20 years!! DISGUSTING!!! Back at the front desk, I had to ring the bell a couple of times and wait for the "Agent" to appear from the back room. He seemed so totally disoriented, almost stunned that a "human" was there in front of him. I actually felt sorry for him and his state of mind. He re-keyed me and gave me two new keys and I was off on another trip up and down stairs back to the room!!! Well, guess what??? The keys didn't work the second time either!! I was exhausted and becoming irritated at this time after driving all the way from Williams, AZ [where I stayed in a lovely La Quinta property]...I told him I would like another room so he gave me keys to a room on the first floor but on the same side of the "property." He said that there were two entrances to the room and I should try both to see which one worked....SERIOUSLY????? Go all the way there to see which door worked??? Mind Blowing!!! I asked him about WiFi and if I needed a password and he just gave me a blank stare. He said..."Oh no...you just connect to your own WiFi...no password necessary." Oh really...well how would I do that since the modem to my "own WiFi" was in the trunk of my car as I was relocating from CA to Rhode Island??...mind boggling!! I went to the room and tried the outside door first...NOTHING but a red light again...for the THIRD time!! I walked all the way around the building [with three bags and a 12lb dog] and went to try the interior door. Oh, GUESS WHAT...It didn't work either, a red light again...so this is the fourth time I tried to get into a room at this DUMP!!! I went back to the reception AGAIN for the Third Time and he got a device to open the lock as he said they had been having "problems" with the key cards. We went to the room together where he used the device to try and open the door....and guess what...it didn't work either, but there was a different scenario when the GUEST who was staying in the room started SHOUTING...."HEY...What the Hell is going ON...what are you guys doing out there"??? It was 4:00 AM at that time. I should have just left then, escaped to anywhere...even sleeping in my car at a rest stop would have been better. Sooooo....back to the desk to get another room...do you not have a Property Management System at this hotel?? I mean, the agent actually did NOT KNOW which rooms were vacant and which were occupied?? There were only a small amount of autos in the lot so the occupancy must have been quite low. I was just flabbergasted at this time, it was like I was in a Horror Film!!! He finally took me to a room with a King Bed where he was able to open the door and I finally went into my room. It was almost 5:00AM at this time. The lighting in the room was so poor I could barely see the condition of the room. All I could see was that the bed was made up, but more fun was to COME!!! The room had a foul, musty, disgusting odor and seemed unclean, I turned on the HVAC to try and get some different air into the space. I couldn't even find an electrical outlet near the bed to charge my phone. I tried to connect to the "WiFi"...but NO LUCK...that wasn't going to happen. The bathroom was not properly stocked, two towels and one washcloth...are you kidding me???? The tub was disgustingly filthy as a non-skid surface that had once been there had been ripped off and left big black vile looking marks which had trapped the filth left by previous guests. I wouldn't step into that tub if my life had depended on it. After only getting less than four and a half hours sleep I was awakened by a very loud pounding on the door that kept up relentlessly and my little dog started to bark. A woman was outside shouting something at me in some undecipherable language. I asked her to speak English and she responded...."Hey...Are you CHECKING OUT"???? WTF??? I mean really, where and in which hotel does a room attendant come to your door two hours before checkout time [even though I was told I could stay until 1:00PM] to pound on your door and wake you up to ask if you are "Chekkking OOUTT"??? Please tell me where this lovely practice is in use so I will NEVER go near that place. That was the straw that broke the proverbial "Camel's Back" and I quickly dressed, threw some water on my face and left the room with my belongings and my poor little confused dog. It was about 10:15AM at that time. I pulled my car around front and stormed into the Lobby. The "Agent" that had provided such "Gracious Hospitality" a few hours previously was outside with a friend enjoying a little break. He saw me coming and jumped up and ran into the back office behind the front desk. There were several strange characters hanging around the front desk who seemed to be his friends or "enablers." He came to check me out and I told him I refused to Pay for this joke of a "Hotel Stay." I told him that only Explosives and a Wrecking Ball could save that place and he should look for a new job as I was sure the business wouldn't survive. I asked for the manager's name and to reverse the charges and he replied "Oh I cannot do that...maybe on Monday, when the manager is here...." I asked for the name of the Manager and he said...'OH that is Roger...."...."ROGER WHO"???? I asked...he replied, "Roger Black." He had no card with a manager's name to give to me...SERIOUSLY???? He told me my card had been denied and I said...."What???..A major bank card with a $25,000 Credit Limit and only a balance of about $500 and it had just been used without any problem in Arizona cannot be denied..."...He tried it again and said..."Oh, it just went through..." I thought to myself, is this person totally incompetent or does he have mental health issues?? Perhaps it was a combination of both with a drug problem thrown in too.
