Si vuelvo a Kalmar, vuelvo a Clarion Collection.

Location is great and its cozy in the old harbor storage houses but to pricyIts a nice hotel with good staff in a nice location but you expect a little bit more based on the price. Theres really nothing to complain about but to match the price everything needs to be just a little bit better. More effort in to maintaining the rooms put up the food a notch to be worth close to 1500kr per night provide some extras. However the covid adaptations is the best I encountered so far good dinner and breakfast arrangements!

Good stayThe hotel is very nice and located in a very central area, close to the center of Kalmar. Booked for visiting Öland and later going to Gotland. Rooms are spacious (at the last floor) and clean. Breakfast has a wide choice of food. Would recommend.

Insultingly expensive - in dire need of a remodelIve stayed at Packhuset several times before and always found it lackluster for the outrageous pricing, but this stay was just downright awful and convinced me that I cant keep coming back to this joke of a hotel. Lets start off by saying that this hotel is always waaaaaay too expensive. Ive stayed at my fair share of overpriced hotels both in Sweden and abroad, but Packhuset is probably the worst bang for the buck Ive experienced, no matter what time of year you visit. A few highlights: * The rooms are extremely cramped. Ive stayed at their deluxe rooms before and they are okay, but this time I stayed at a superior room (three categories up from the base room) and it was honestly not much bigger than a good-sized master bathroom. No storage, only one chair and a small queen-sized bed. * You can hear everything from the room next door. As luck would have it, my next-door neighbour threw a party one night (as one does in Sweden in the midst of a pandemic). When I complained to the front desk, they first asked me to wait until midnight, and then gave me another room, which was surprisingly even more cramped than the first. No apologies, no compensation. * The rooms are terribly outdated. Furniture is worn down, carpets are stained, walls have marks, and so forth. Bathrooms resemble a 90s public restroom. The rooms dont only need a refresh they need a complete remodel ASAP. * Since the rooms are very old, they lack modern essentials, such as outlets. Fingers crossed that you travel alone and only use one phone since you wont be able to charge much more. The bathrooms are also unbearably cold since they, unlike all other Swedish hotels, lack underfloor heating. Not surprisingly, the rooms are also hot as a sauna in the summer since Packhuset lacks AC (which, to be fair, is common in Sweden). * The housekeeping is mediocre at best. Lots of dust and cobwebs. * Beds and pillows are very uncomfortable. Despite taking prescription grade sleeping pills, I was unable to get more than a few hours of sleep per night. My back and neck started hurting. * This is a Clarion Collection, which means that the price is including an afternoon snack and a light supper. Both pretty much inedible and much worse than whats on offer from many other Clarion Collection properties. For us Nordic Choice elite members, this also means that you dont get a voucher, which makes the value proposition even worse. * Breakfast was neither appetizing nor even remotely covid safe. We skipped it and dined elsewhere. * Speaking of, the covid measures are a joke. No plexiglass shielding, no physical barriers, and a vast majority of the staff members dont wear face masks despite Nordic Choice policy to do so. By not wearing their masks, they endanger the wellbeing of guests and might put you in a ventilator, should you choose to visit. Totally unacceptable. That said, I will note that the location is good with very scenic views. If they were to address the issues and do a complete interior remodel, the property would probably become a really, really good hotel. In summary, Packhuset is a terribly outdated low- to mid-range hotel with cramped rooms in dire need of a complete remodel, laughingly poor covid measures and below average service that charges similar prices to newly built four or five star hotels in Stockholm. Avoid it like the plague (or, at the very least, like covid, which you might end up getting here anyway).

Didn't feel safeWe travelled as a family of four in June. We phoned the hotel in advance and asked if they had a room for all four of us but they didn't and so we booked two doubles. Upon arrival one of the rooms was very large and had a double plus a sofabed - prcisely what we asked for! The reception staff informed us that there was no way the booking could be changed now since we had paid for two rooms when we checked in. You can imagine how we felt about this. We are a family of health care workers and had anticipated all kinds of safety precautions for guests but in the end we saw only one: a sign at reception informing all guests that they no longer cleaned rooms during guests' stay (to minimize exposure of housekeeping staff). No information about this had been offered beforehand and there was no price reduction to compensate for the inconvenience. In the elevator there was a sign saying that they no longer served afternoon tea (which they did) and that buffets were out and they now only served a la carte (buffets were in fact the only option for breakfast and dinner). The dining room was crowded and the optimistic 2-metre-rule of social distancing not enforced (and the floor markings were not even 2 metres apart). So in the end we felt that the hotel protected its staff but didn't care much for its guests. On the plus side: good location right on the water, 2 nice outside spaces to sit. On the minus side: very limited breakfast buffet, really the smallest spread I've had in a swedish hotel anywhere. So the overall impression is that we will not return and I suggest that the hotel rethinks its strategy when it comes to reducing risk of virus transmission.
