Terrible experience. Would never stay here again.

This hotel is terribly disorganized and I would never stay here again. Their website says that they text and email you a code to get into your room. When I had not received a code by checkin time (3pm) I sent them a message using Facebook messenger (because their website has messenger pop up and ask if you have questions) at 3:45pm and never received a response. We arrived to the hotel around 6:15pm and the reception was closed and locked. We called the phone number they provided and it just kept ringing, no one ever answered. I had booked through Expedia so I then sent a message to the hotel via Expedia. After no response I called Expedia and was on the phone with them for over an hour. Eventually Expedia got in contact with the owner and he made them continue to call the hotel phone number (that we had previously called) for awhile, and still no one answered. Finally Expedia talked to the owner again and we were able to get a code to enter our room (this was around 7:30pm, checkin was at 3:00pm, so this was 4.5 hours late). In the end we spent almost an hour and a half sitting in a hallway waiting to check in. We still have not been able to talk to anyone who works at the hotel, because they have not been available (even though they claim to be available via phone 24 hours/day). Not only were we not offered compensation for all of these issues, we never even received an apology. This is an appalling way to treat customers. Avoid this place at all costs.

    City Living Sentrum Hotel

I was under the impression that all rooms had a kitchenette. My mistake. Only the apartments do. I made a reservation with that in mind, planning to buy stuff at the local fishmarket (which is a market in name only). The kitchen is a common facility, small and dark. Our room was a tiny, dull, depressing pit with a cracked door frame and wires sticking out of the ceiling in place of a light fixture. The room was so small the two twin beds could hardly fit there. Wi-fi was a disaster with the constantly disappearing signal. Street parking is $3.50 p/h, free from 8 pm to 8 am only. The front desk are not aware of the nearest (and the cheapest) parking garage Bilhuset Ola Brun and offer you to park on the other end of downtown. The location is central, true, across the street from the royal apartments, but since downtown Trondheim is about 1 km in diameter it makes any other hotel in town centrally located. So considering that a decent breakfast for two would cost you a least $50 you would be better off staying at a hotel providing breakfast. There are more hotels than tourists in Trondheim and at a better price than this dump so you have plenty of choice. Avoid it by all means.

A modern hotel that completely lacks customer service

The hotel does not have a reception and the check-in process is done with a key code being texted just prior to check-in. We advised at time of booking that we would not have roaming and asked for the code to be emailed but that did not work. So we had to phone on arrival and give new details and then wait for codes to be sent. Very frustrating and we were not the only ones. There was another couple having the same experience so it is clearly not an isolated incident. The room itself is modern, clean and comfortable however we were there in summer and it was quite warm. On various booking sites the hotel is advertised as providing "air conditioned accommodation". It does not. There is a ventilation system in place which I gather does something in winter but it is not an air conditioning. We had a street facing room and so could not open the window for ventilation because of street noise so it was a stuffy and uncomfortable night. The ultimate question for me with this hotel is would I stay here again and the answer to that is an unequivocal no. Call me old fashioned but this being my first experience with a "reception free" hotel I would not do it again. No one to talk to on arrival, no one to give directions, no one to ask where to catch the bus, no area to sit and wait, no place to leave suitcases after check out. Not for me.

Great location, clean and good valuer for money

Great location (close to center and all the main tourist spots, bars for nightlife, supermarkets,...), clean, and, most of all, good value for money, especially having in mind Norway prices. Maybe a bit of a warning for those who may be intimidated with this: There's no front desk, no regular "staff" at all, you get a code to let yourself in the hotel and in your room before the check-in. Don't worry, it works fine. If you want any staff intervention, there's always staffed front desk of sister hotel (City Living Scholler), only 250 m away. They do the free luggage storage service as well.

    No parking facilities

Got everything you need. Clean and compact. The only set back is there is no parking in the hotel. Need to walked a couple of block to and fro to a 24 hrs pay parking. Not fun when you have suitcase with you.
