AcceptableI had to find a place to stay over rather fast. It was pure coincidence that I ended up in this place. I stayed here one night only. Here my pros and cons for City Inn (Happey Valley). The pros - Ok location in Overseas Chinese Town - Right next to metro station - They have restaurants and supermarkets close by (5-10 minutes walk) - Hotel is right next to amusement park, assuming this is of interest - Room is big enough - Toilet is ok - Cost is around 300 renminbi per night and does include breakfast = cheap The cons - Check-in was bit of messy - Their English skills are rather limited - My bed was super hard even in Chinese standards - Hotel elevator had some issues - Overall City Inn did look bit tired - Poor isolation, traffic did disturb me during the night This hotel would be good choice for somebody trying to get a cheap room. It is way below the standards typical western business traveler in general would require. I did spot some young westerners, and I think for them this is rather ok choice. I did have my dinner in UBC coffee, cost around 35 renminbi. Coffee there would cost you more than that. Decent and simple food.

Overrated, but a decent place to stayWe chose the City Inn Happy Valley because it was located near some of the tourist attractions we wanted to visit and because it was highly rated on the internet. Overall it was pretty good, but I don't know why it was rated so good online. The staff was pretty dull and lifeless. The refrigerator was broken and when we asked to replace or fix it, nothing was done. The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. The room was pretty small and cramped (but clean) and the bed was super hard. There were plenty of good things though: internet was hard-wired and fast, Chinese breakfast was included, and it was actually decent, even though I would have preferred a western breakfast. The location was excellent. The whole area was so pleasant to walk around and explore. Window of the World was 5 minutes away and Splendid China was about a 20 minute walk. In between the hotel and Splendid China was a Wal-Mart that had excellent soups and dumplings for one of the best lunches I had on my whole trip! For the price and area, I'd probably stay at the City Inn Happy Valley again, but I still think this place is overrated.

budget placeIt was ok place to sleep and live but if you are looking for international breakfast then dont go there. its good for local people but foreigners may face issue as language and food is local. One major advantage is location, this place is like heart of city so that is a good positive point.

Good location but terrible breakfast!Stayed here for 9 nights. Firstly this place is cheap and well located. Bed is hard but clean and comfortable. The rooms are very small and very simple. They have air conditioning and the bathroom is modern (simple). The big problem with this place is the breakfast which is Chinese and poor quality. There is no coffee and no tea?? I was able to get some hot water and use the tea bag from the room (there was no instant coffee etc in the room either). I also asked the front desk if they spoke in English. The answer was yes but she answered in Chinese. English speakers may move trouble being understood. Several nights I was awoken by noise in the corridor. Nothing serious just locals talking on their phones or chasing noisy children. There seemed to be little consideration for guests trying to sleep. In conclusion this is a cheap hotel and you get what you pay for which is the basics - a clean room and not much else.
