Convenient, clean and accommodatingI stayed at the City Hotel Szeged for a week during the world club crew dragon boat championships this month. We were a group of nearly 30 paddlers and I cannot say enough about how well we were accommodated. My notes: - I shared a room in the "turret" part of the hotel with two other women and, even with a queen-sized bed and a (surprisingly comfortable) cot, the room was large enough to move around without getting in each others' space. The rooms are generally big, relative to many European hotels. - We had a full service clean twice a week with a shorter daily check to empty the garbage and replace toilet paper and soap. I'm not sure whether that is usual or was particular to our group deal but the rooms were very clean and we didn't run short of anything. The one thing I would have liked is more places to hang wet towels and drying clothing. There was a good-sized closet but no hooks and just one towel bar. - There were three outlets in our room so we could all charge up overnight and they provide free wifi. - The AC worked great and the windows all open if you prefer ambient temperatures and fresh air. - We were at the end of the hall on the second storey and, although we heard the street noise when the windows were open, the between-room insulation seemed very good (or maybe our neighbours were just really quiet). - There is an elevator. - There is just one key per room (old-style, not electronic) per room but the front desk never minded how many times the three of us left it there and then asked for it back as we went our separate ways. - The café on the ground floor with the sidewalk tables really made the stay perfect. An ample breakfast was served there every morning with bread, cereal, boiled eggs, cheese, cold meats, yoghurt, and all the things that go with that. They were even kind enough to start breakfast earlier on the days that we had early races. We sat outside to get our day started right in the lovely Szeged summer mornings, later when we came back to the hotel and wanted a cold beverage or good cup of coffee and a croissant, and late into the evening to wind down and compare notes about our days. The café is licensed and serves light food all day. - The location is perfect for a short walk to the city centre or a wander to the riverside. Very convenient. - There is an all-hours keypad for after-hours access. - The reception staff was very helpful and responsive to our many requests.

City Hotel - a gemWell appointed rooms with air conditioning, windows that open, parking garage, Internet, nice breakfast, shower, elevator and cafe on the ground floor. Decor is simple. Staff speak English. City Hotel is located close to the Tisa River, central square, cathedral, synagogue, Pick Paprika and Salami museum. Owner Peter is a delightful host who runs several hotels and can arrange groups for accommodation and dinner. Recommended.

Club Crew Championships visitI was participating in the CCWC (Club Crew World Championships) representing my club from Montreal, Canada. Our club manager had stayed at this hotel at a previous event in 2013 and had enjoyed his stay, so he was only too pleased to discuss staying with his teams members again. Peter, the owner/manager actually came to Montreal to assist with making arrangements and assuring our members an enjoyable and fair deal. He has several establishments in relatively close proximity, so this enabled him to make arrangements for our large group to best suit our needs. The accommodations were clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and able to speak English as well as their native tongue. Breakfast was in the City Hotel, and consisted of typical European continental breakfast. Our evening means were provided at a nearby hotel where the dining was outdoors. And served 50 + every evening. Peter was always around one or the other hotel. He always had a smile and would find time to chat and help whenever asked. A very enjoyable stay.

Great location near city centerStayed in City Hotel Szeged for 2 nights just before Christmas. Staff was friendly and English speaking. Spacious room and bathroom. Clean, warm and cozy.Breakfast was good with great coffee included. Just a 5 min walk to city center,so it's a great place to start from to explore lovely Szeged on foot. Streets are a bit noizy at night, but windows are able to block most of it. Parking is free during weekends, for other times, there is a parking meter payable with credit card in the same street. Shopping centers are a bit far (3-5km),so it's better to drive from hotel. Great value for money.
