Old Style Thai Hotel...The Chiang Mai Phucome is an old style Thai hotel. Quite amazing decor with much of the foyer and surrounding areas finished in dark teak wood. Architecturally this is quite an amazing hotel inside. Bedrooms are clean & tidy and spacious with all the normal amenities - comfortable clean beds, a/c, fridge, TV, telephone and a good sized en-suite bathroom. The overall service was good but it is not a top quality hotel, however I would say it is good value for the money. I would suggest it may not be the first choice for westerners based upon the foods served in the hotel's restaurants. From breakfast to diner - it seemed to be entirely Thai style... Breakfast is only buffet style and whilst there was a great choice it really was suited to the Asian palette. Lunch and diner is offered from menus. There was a basic room-service menu too. The hotel's location isn't bad for the town. It is far enough away to be quiet and peaceful but close enough to gain access to the old town - even by walking if you don't mind a 10-15 minute walk...! Overall a fine hotel if you want accommodation on a budget. There are far cheaper places if cost is a factor but they have far lower qualities and standards than this hotel. The Phucome looks very impressive with a vast amount of wood work, carvings and ornaments but doesn't make it up there with the 4/5 star places that are available in Chiang Mai.

Basic Thai Hotel - not fancy, but clean & handy. If you are not an experienced traveller in Asia, this hotel may not meet your expectations. It is a basic clean hotel - clean rooms, TV, Wifi, decent A/C, 6-10am breakfast buffet (same selection daily), outdoor pool nobody seems to use. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops in area. 10 minute walk to a large night market. Hotel does a lot of tourist bus trade. Quiet area after 9pm. Hotel reception speaks basic English. Front desk will deal with any room issues quickly.

Not impressedCaveat: this is a western perspective reviewing this hotel. This is a definitely a older hotel. When arriving I feel like I stepped into a 1960s spaghetti western movie with all the lace woodwork, dark recesses and wooden figurines reminiscent of totem poles. I was defiantly transported back in time into an era I'm not sure I was interested in staying in for a week. Needless to say, the rooms are big and spacious as others have mentioned. The room in general is dark and the fluorescent lighting doesn't help a bit. Our bathroom was even darker. The most modern thing in the room was a nice flat screen tv. There was a rotary phone in the bathroom thought a keypad phone between the two single beds. These beds essentially sat on the ground and were very soft. One pillow was comfortable the other was as comfortable as a rock. Sheets had holes in them and just looked old, along with the bed skirts. The center table between the two beds offered power but also hap options to turn on a radio and tape player that was still connected to the wall, but neither the tape player or radio was to be found...surprisingly. The bathroom for us was gross. It took 5 or so minutes to get hot water initially, the shower head was loose the first night and had to hand tighten it. Which ended up all over the ceiling and toilet. While showering we stood in about 2 to 5 inches of water as the tub didn't drain fast enough and had to wait 5+ min for it to drain completely. Are room and especially our bathroom was not cleaned at all (I know our toilet wasn't for the full 5 days we were here). Overall the hotel is dark and somewhat creepy especially at night. Breakfast was mediocre and just stuck with toast and fruit. I really like Thai food and don't mind it for breakfast but didn't look appetizing at all. If I come back to Chiangmai I'm pretty sure I wouldn't stay here. But I'm sure for some it's the perfect hotel and it certainly was busy enough with guests. This was simply my experience. Wifi has the potential to be great but not enough access points for the volume of rooms and people.

Charming older hotelRecently stayed here for a conference. Lovely big, light room with large window and insect screens (which is my preference to air con during the cooler season). Air con also available. Great views of Doi Suthep. Not too many western choices for breakfast. Walking distance to MANY cafes, restaurants and Maya Mall.

unpleasant stayPoor logistic management regarding transportation from airport. Room assignment is a mess. Bathroom wasn't cleaned properly at check-in (dirty utensils were left there). Water splashed out of the sink. No iron. Cramped bathroom. Wifi internet is very slow.
