  Do NOT book a room at Chez Pat

  I was excited to stay at Chez Pat's Bed and Breakfast during my trip to Cambridge this week. It looked comfortable and quaint, and it was in the neighborhood I needed, which made this trip entirely walkable. I wouldn't need to rent a car. I booked about a month in advance, and called Pat prior to my arrival to let her know what time I planned to get there. But on the day of my trip -- as I was between flights from Detroit to Boston -- an email arrived saying my reservation was canceled because the B&B was overbooked. She suggested I call another nearby B&B to see if the owner could accommodate me instead. I was panicked. I was due to arrive in Cambridge in fewer than two hours and I had no place to go. Pat didn't even have the courtesy of calling me to tell me that my reservation had been canceled. Worse, I was about to board the plane with very little time to make alternative arrangements. Luckily, the B&B she suggested agreed to help me. The owner said this happens all the time with Chez Pat. She is constantly overbooking and sending customers like me to him at the last minute without knowing for certain whether he has room to accommodate them. My advice: Find another place. Do NOT book here. If you're looking for a lovely, reliable B&B in Cambridge, try Prospect Place instead.

  Sweet and Sour experience

  Great location, very nicely appointed home and a seemingly gracious hostess at first glance. Chez Pat is a quirky place to stay typical of a B&B. 4 rooms share a bath, be prepared for that. No reception area, just a bunch of doors you have to knock on to get someone to show up. Upon arrival, Pat didnt ask our names or ask for any ID which one can think of as quaint, but very sketchy on the security side of things. Anyone can walk in it seems. The front door which is always supposed to be locked is almost never locked especially late are night. There are two very steep and very narrow flights of stairs that lead to four tastefully appointed rooms with full sized beds, not Queen, which makes for a tight fit for two adults. Pat seems to be a delight, until checkout time. Checkout is at 11am and I went down to knock on doors until a handyman opened up to say Pat was gone for an hour and being 10:30 I told the man to please tell her that I wanted to inquire about the possibility of a late checkout. I assumed that Pat would contact me when she arrived and did but by barging into our room at 11:30 and yelling that we must get out because checkout was at 11 or she would charge us another night. She was irate and EXTREME rude. Dont let the sweet old lady routine fool you, she is a mean one and unprofessional, at best. Dont be fooled that she has available parking. She has a permit to park on her street but good luck finding a space. Despite the quirks and security issues, we were very pleased with our stay until Pat turned into Mr. Hyde Will definitely not be staying here again.

  Good experience

  Unlike the two other reviews, our experience was great Yes, you share a bath with three other rooms. Since we were the only guests the night we stayed, I can't comment on what it would be like when the inn is full, but if you book knowing this, you can deal. It's clean and comfortable, the bath is well appointed and modern, and the breakfast good, with bagels, croissants, yogurt, fresh berries and French press coffee. Our host Pat was gracious and joined us for breakfast. The street parking was tight but we found a spot once we checked in and the neighborhood is walkable and quiet. The interior of the inn is also quite nice. Our room was airy and quiet.
