Luxuriously weirdAs many other reviewers pointed out, this is supposed to be one of the top hotels in Chengdu. And it probably is. I stayed in a single room on the 23rd floor. Here are some pros and cons... On the plus side: The room is nice and spacious, with lots of amenities. The breakfast buffet has A LOT of options, even for those who prefer to stick with western options. Those who prefer oriental food for breakfast will be definitely very happy. On the negative side: The room shows not-so-subtle signs of wear. Things go downhill elsewhere. Meeting spaces on the 3rd and 6th floor were pretty horrible. The carpets were covered with cigarette burns and numerous dust bunnies. The staff didn't seem to be interested in vacuuming the floors at all. On the weird side: Room controls! To turn on the lights in the morning, you have to press the button labeled "WARM." Many other controls didn't make much sense either. The elevators will only stop on YOUR floor since you have to swipe your room key to operate it. So, if you want to meet up with a friend on, say, 15th floor, you will need to take the stairs or go to the lobby. The front desk staff (even those who spoke fluent English) would always consult with a manager before giving any information to a non-local, which made me feel weird. On top of this, the hotel staff never replied to any of my pre-arrival inquiries. The nightly turn-down service is a nice touch, but it only occurred twice during my week-long stay with no apparent date pattern.

Great hotel in ChengduThis hotel is super-modern, very clean, and overall excellent. Bed was very comfy. The only concern is that everything in the room is electronically controlled, so it's hard to manipulate the lights without also having the blinds open, etc. Also, for me at least, having the toilet seat pre-heated to near body temperature is not a great default setting, but I guess it's common in the East! Great hotel. Highly recommend it.

Comfortable but need to improve.Location is good, there are bus stops and metro station nearby. Sichuan uni is next door, so there are lots of dinner options nearby. Hard bed and soft pillows are comfortable, room is clean and spacious. breakfast is excellent...... if you like asian style breakfast, you can have soup, rice and noodle stuff, but not many options for westerners. 3things to improve. 1. Its supposed to be a smart control system to control lights and TV. However it was not well explained. I stayed for 10 nights but still couldnt turn bathroom light on without waking up by husband. The bidet system too... English explanation!!! 2. Had a snack at the cafe on arrival, super expensive. We ordered coffee, juice, club sandwich and french onion soup, that costed more than ¥800. They werent special but pathetic. French onion soup was like warm chicken stock that has some pieces of onion floating with 2 pieces of stale bread. That was the most expensive and disappointing meal that we had in Chengdu. 3. Hard to communicate with staff, as there are very few English speaking staff. Even getting a taxi takes a while if we didnt write the destination in Chinese. And its 5star Hotel. 4. The map that they provide is not useful. But I think its a good hotel, staff are nice but just cant speak English, which makes them shy and avoiding us.

Somewhat surreal but relaxingThe historic dress theme of the hotel can be a little too Disney-like but the staff as professional and the rooms very large and luxuriously appointed. Breakfast is extensive although it can be rather crowded.... It is the best location for anyone going to Sichuan University

Nice next to universityThe rooms are nice, so is the staff. Very convenient, close to the West Gate of Sichuan University. But there are some buts. Breakfast looks great, but when you look around: The warm food is cold unless you arrive just as they open. They have noodles, but not very good, and not local. A million types of cakes/soft bread, all taste the same. And they allow smoking in the breakfast room "only at some tables".
