  'Safety Recommended' as per the US Embassy listing

  Splendid room, large comfortable clean bed, quiet location with negligible noise during the day and night. I missed the breakfast as part of the room rate on my last day, and the reception insisted upon delivering me a fresh fruit alternative at my departure. Exceptionally helpful staff who have lots of experience in troubleshooting for overseas guests. This is a location on the US Embassy list as having been security-reviewed. Security checks upon entry into the hotel courtyard and then again at the entrance into the building. Equivalent cost to all midrange hotels used by overseas visitors, for Abuja. Two local taxis have become approved to site a vehicle in the courtyard and so that saves extended negotiation and potential problems on street side. The trip from/to the airport for those without alternative transportation is 6,000 Naira ($17) and takes about 30 minutes in good traffic. Rooms have international satellite TV, adequate hot water, and all the usual African/international facilities. On Friday nights at 9 PM in the Martini Bar there is a gathering for Jazz Night. I have no other Abuja hotels against which to compare but this had all the qualities that satisfied me as a frequent traveler in what might be called fragile-settings so I know this will be my first choice on my return to Abuja.

  Fairly rundown property, with management issues

  Overall, an unenjoyable stay, in a place that did not feel clean, with lots of issues, from broken locks to payment problems, and tons of attitude from the front desk staff. The downstairs bar is rather cozy - good place to have a beer, if you don't feel like heading out. The breakfast is absolutely awful - don't bother. Otherwise, Abuja has plenty to offer, and the Chelsea is certainly not one of those things. On the other hand, it's pretty cheap, so with a buyer beware attitude, it could work for some.

  Recommendation

  I wasn't impressed about my stay. The service was poor. AC was in a bad shape and noisy. Food was good and the receptionist was polite. The Hotel needs some maintenance The hotel is only good for men.

  Ive read many of the other reviews and I can confirm its probably a two star in UK Staff at front desk were helpful and guest relations were good Rooms / hotel in a poor state of repair eg my bath-plug mechanism was broken , wardrobe hinges, falling off , air con is very loud and is just on or off Guest WiFi is limited to one log on and is very bad . Food is the same each day and average more slanted to. African tastes Pool seemed warm, clean and well maintained My clean bathrobe was taken by housekeeping and never replaced

  Decent

  We stayed there while being on mission for 3 nights. Decent hotel nothing more nothing less, good security. A bit far from the next mall when you don t have a car. Food, diner and breakfast are ok. Service is good.
