Plenty of history hereEfficient check in, however I arrived late due to a seriously delayed flight (and left early) so no time to fully enjoy location, views and facilities. The room was huge with an equally large bathroom. Very comfortable with decor in keeping with the age of the chateau. Dinner in the restaurant -only had salad main course - lovely. Few people in the restaurant so little atmosphere. Breakfast was bizarre, but probably as Id asked for it earlier than it should have started - I received various dishes on my table with cereals, fresh fruit, bread, ham, cheese etc but far too much for me to eat... I dont know whether this was because they were accommodating me for my early departure or the norm. Also had cooked eggs. Majestic place (as a chateau should be) with plenty of history, but which felt quite impersonal and lacked atmosphere because there were very few other people there when I stayed.

3 Star Hotel standardPositives: beautiful parklike surroundings with adjacent garden, impressive building with a nice decor. Spacious rooms and bathrooms. Great place for company parties where service is not that important. Very tasty breakfast including freshly baked bread. Negatives: building requires serious facelift, paint is peeling off in many places. Use of a pool only available after 20 EUR charge. TV set from the 90s with a limited channel selection and poor reception quality. Internet available in limited places. Bathroom only includes a bathtub without a shower curtain. It makes showering a very interesting experience. Came to the restaurant for drinks 10 min before closing and were told by a rude waiter that we would not be served. After little pressure we eventually got our drinks. It looks as if the place had its best time 10 years ago and ever since quality has been deteriorating. Overall experience was fair.

Not a 5 star hotelStayed for two nights, found most staff (although not all) very rude and lacking in knowledge as to what is expected of a five star establishment. Overpriced and interior is quite dated. A few examples - receptionist would barely look up from her mobile whilst being talked to, impossible to get served at the restaurant, major inconvenience to have guests. Service is slow and not friendly - do not ask for tap water or any flexibility with the menu. The food quality is mediocre and expensive. Bottle of Muller T over 500,- Kc... Hotel wellness area does not seem maintained well and it has no drinking fountains, all floors were super slippery, there was no way of contacting staff in an emergency - at your own risk suddenly had a slightly different meaning... the entry to the spa area is not included in the room rate.

One night stopoverHappened upon the Chateau Zbiroh when searching for hotels to stop at during our road trip to Hungary. Perhaps expensive by Czech standards, but we only paid slightly more than we had for a pokey little room at Frankfurt airport the previous night and ended up with a whole suite. Amazing views from the courtyard where we scoffed down a delicious and reasonably priced dinner, plus a good nights sleep imagining we were royalty from years gone by. Only slight criticism was the atmosphere at breakfast, really could have done with some music or something, as it felt like the rest of the hotel was just sitting in silence and staring at us while my 4-year-old son lectured us on why he doesnt like sausages (with a mouth full of sausages) and quizing me on why knights are real but dragons arent.
