Lovely stop before skiingPleasant hotel in nice surroundings, rolling hills and pretty countryside. The room was very nice and spacious and we very much enjoyed dinner. Great innovative cooking, pleasant service and very friendly staff. We will be back!

Sadly not what it used to be.....Having stayed here several times before this has always been a real treat. The Michelin Starred gastronomic experience has always been exceptional and I returned with high hopes. However there was only a simple bistro menu on offer, the same 3 choices of courses every day, sadly I had not been told this was the case on booking, had I have known I would not have booked and found elsewhere, as every other gastronomic restaurant we had dined in on our trip had the ability to serve Gastronomic Menus and impressive cheese and dessert trolleys etc. (They said this was due to Covid but it seemed like a fairly feeble excuse) The wine list starting at 55 to 6900 a bottle completely mismatched to the now experience. The pool is pretty, although the standards are slipping here and a lack of maintenance was showing everywhere from the blue tarp covering a dining room roof light to weeds growing through the decking and broken lights everywhere. A Michelin star might have been gained last year, but unless they buck up their ideas soon, I fear the reviews will continue to be lacklustre and the star will be removed. They will need to do a lot to convince a loyal customer to return.

RACIST AND TERRIBLE ! Horrible Staff. Horrible foodIF YOU DONT SPEAK FRENCH YOU ARE NOT WELCOME. Stayed in the hotel , absolutely hated. Had to leave 1 day early. Because of the terrible Service and Staff. Despite the exchange of emails asking for information. ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST OF THE STAFF IN HELPING. DIRTY ROOM , Terrible food , and the most horrendous service I have ever seen in a hotel. The front desk was shouting and swearing. Dont go.

Misleading description and awful serviceWe drove to Chateau do Courban as a two day rest stop on our way home from Switzerland as it had good reviews, a pool, a spa and a Michelin one star restaurant. We left after one day...here's why... 1. The restaurant It is only operating as a full 'gastronomique' on Saturday evening and Sunday lunch, and even then it's unclear whether the chef who won the star is cooking. So - when we sat down for dinner and were informed that the menu (and the restaurant) was 'bistronomique' we were disappointed. The hotel did not inform us in advance and uses this very oblique distinction (gastro' versus bistro') on its website as a protection. Well, over the years I've had many wonderful meals in French bistros so what could be the harm? Bistronomique at de Courban means a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains. The starter choices we were offered: snails, foie gras or pea soup. We asked for green salads and were given a mixed salad each (with gritted teeth from the team). Here are the mains: fish, chicken or beef (with a choice sides but fries available for all). I'd driven 500km to be offered fish and chips, chicken and chips or steak and chips. I'd not mind but the chef couldn't even cook the steak. Both my kid's hache and our cote de bouf had to be sent back to be cooked as asked (underdone). And then there is the service... The sommelier was nonplussed when we declined to order a bottle of white and a bottle if red. We asked for recommendations for wines by the glass and the whites he served were wonderful. But that was it. When he returned and started to pour a glass of red for my wife, who asked him to wait as she was unsure whether she would stay with the white, he turned, walked off and never returned. When the beef reappeared from its re-cook I sat and waited for 40 minutes for a member of staff to get me a drink. No waiter or manager bothered. Its clear I had upset them and they were going to make our experience as unpleasant as possible. The breakfast is fine but nothing special; a buffet with a solid range of cold choices and a hot tray of bacon and scrambled eggs. The hotel The front of house staff are young and don't seem to have been to hotel school. The young lady who showed us around was bordering on rude and when we asked for more pillows (each of us has one 18" square pillow for sleeping) her answer was "we don't give extra". The pool area is lovely. The Spa - make sure you book when they have staff - it was closed when we visited. I complained on my first evening that neither the restaurant nor the spa was operating as advertised and was assured that it would be raised and addressed by management. The next morning nothing had been done and no one bothered to discuss any of our issues. I was so uncomfortable that we decided to check out. There you have it: 900 for one night including a fine dinner of one green salad, one glass of wine and a side of pomme dauphinoise. So be very careful visiting this hotel. Be aware that its current services are not as described and be very careful that the restaurant is poor. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g675391-d5461946-r762992010-Le_Chateau_De_Courban-Courban_Cote_d_Or_Bourgogne_Franche_Comte.html#

NO NO NO ! To be avoided. We were really looking forward to this stay on our way back from Provence. We booked it because of the Michelin star, but when we sat down we were told that they only cook gastronomic food on certain days of the week, and we had to eat bistro style. it was too late to go else where on a sunday evening, so we had to stay. the bistro food was pretty good, but the Foie Gras and the cheese were both too recently out of the fridge and so both too chilled.clumsy mistake. The wine list is good with some over- optimistic prices suitable to a fine dining experience not a bistro. we were told we could only sit down at seven fifteen or nine 15, which was annoying and then the restaurant for both sittings was about a third full, so why force us into an early or late sitting? No explanation or apology. The Room was comfy but there was one of those automatic taps in the bathroom that give pour when you put your hands under, but this tap went off a dozen times in the night waking us up. In the morning the staff were totally disinterested in our complaints, so we left disappointed and feeling we had been duped into booking there. Never again.
