To be avoidedWe had booked two rooms but on arrival were informed that there was only a record of one booking on the hotel system. After some discussion we were told we could have a decommissioned room as the superior room we had booked was no longer apparently available. The staff member who we initially dealt with on reception was rude in her manner considering the circumstances and a colleague helpfully resolved matters. After checking and confirming that the electrics were not dodgy(as initially suggested by staff)in this room we were given it at a reduction of ten pounds. As it goes both rooms were very jaded, cold and in need of some considerable refurbishment. The television in one of them worked intermittenty and in the other didn't work all. The showers struggled to heat up and room temperature could not as had been suggested controlled.Overall the hall and landing areas were dirty and in need of a good clean. The lift was also out of order and there were many stairs to negotiate for our 84 year old parent. The breakfast was barely edible with two of three of the breakfast's bacon completely undercooked. Until this hotel receives a make over or reduces its prices significantly avoid at all costs.

Not the best.Firstly the bathroom sink appeared fairly blocked , but only staying one night so no big issue and we were in a hurry to hit town. Rooms were clean but tired. However in the morning we discovered the temperature control on the shower was unmanageable and stuck on scalding, so we had a steam room freshen up before breakfast. Breakfast was OK however I would suggest beans or tomato should have been available as the plate was a bit dry. The staff serving were attentive but very rushed as they were also covering reception and many many checkouts. Overall I would not stay here again.

Clean but tiredWe booked 2 rooms. It's an old hotel which is quite dated. But it is clean, reasonably priced and our rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. The hotel is centrally located with restaurants and bars within easy walking distance.

Fabulous Sunday LunchMyself and my husband called into the Charlemont for lunch on Sunday 5th January, we didnt have a booking but that was not a problem. The place was actually not overly busy, that surprises me as it is a lovely wee hotel, family orientated, very pleasant and attentive staff. It has a lovely ambience and everyone makes you feel so welcome. The Sunday lunch menu is small but more than adequate. My husband had the lamb and I had roast beef. Both our meals were gorgeous, we didnt have that awful heavy bloated feeling you sometimes get after a main meal at lunchtime!! The meal was plentiful, meat was so tender and vegetables were fab, not overcooked ! We will definitely be back . We didnt have starter or dessert so cant comment on those.

Fabulous Saturday night meal!We ate here last night and had a wonderful experience. From the second we stepped in through the door, we were greeted by a really friendly lady who showed us to our table. Drinks orders were taken swiftly and the staff were attentive throughout our meal without being overbearing. We went for a full 3 courses and enjoyed every bite. Honestly, it was the best steak I've eaten in a long time and also very good value. We will definitely be back to eat at the Charlemont Arms Hotel.
