Decrepit yet pricey hotel. Only worth it for the horse racing. Otherwise, go elsewhereOutdated, decrepit and pricey, this hotel only survives because of the lack of any other mid-budget choice in Port Louis. If faced with a bit of competition, this place would have folded years ago. The breakfast was awful. If you want to visit Port Louis, go to the Suffren instead, if you don't mind paying 4x more. The view of the racecourse, fast check-in are the only plus sides.

Tremendous hotelThis family run hotel is fabulous. The husband-wife team from France that own the hotel, were very gracious and invited me to their Mauritius Independence Day party on the sixth floor of the hotel, where I met a lot of interesting people, including Embassy personnel too. My room was nice. The dinner was excellent, and they even made lunch for me one day, gratuitously. The front desk staff is super helpful. I made some side trips to other islands, and they always allowed me to have my favorite room when I returned. And they let me use their computer too, how nice. I got to meet the owners brother, and share wine, a meal, and stories with him. And also, the hotel is right across the street from the horse racing track, how convenient. You can also walk to many nice attractions. I really enjoyed my stay here, I personally recommend this hotel. I stayed at over 100 different hotels in 2016, and this was one of the best.

3 Night Stay at Champ de MarsI moved to Champ de Mars from the place I stayed at the beach side during my first four days in Mauritius. It was a welcome change. My room at Champ de Mars was cleaner with clean beddings and a hot shower. It was also walking distance into town, the market and the mall at the Port. The staff were helpful. The only down side is that I had no tea station in my room and that a TV remote was not avaialble till I asked for one. Otherwise it was a good stay.

Friendly helpful staff and great viewsMy room was pleasant and from the 5th floor the view over Port Louis to the harbour was spectacular. It's a 15 minute walk to the CBD and the waterfront, or a short cab ride. The food was fine - I had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant there every night, and vegetarian options are available - but don't go there for a gourmet experience. There were a few practical problems which we solved but the main thing I loved about this hotel was the obliging and friendly staff. They went out of their way to make my 10-day stay a happy one. I will go there again.

Very low standard hotel not in the best areaHotel is right by the racecourse and not very well located for the waterfront. Whilst not unsafe to walk back to at night it is very quiet and isolated. The rooms were very basic and furnished with formica wardrobe and desk. The shower had seen better days and the toilet ran constantly when flushed. Walls are paper thin and I could hear the conversation of the people next door before I was moved. I wouldn't stay here again if I had a choice. Air con was very noisy and not easily adjustible with the remote control. On the plus side - safe in the room and the wifi was reliable. Very friendly and helpful staff.
