Dishonest!!I visited this "castle" over the weekend on a deal that included, supposedly, breakfast and a guided tour of the regional foods and wines. Prior to purchasing the voucher, I emailed the hotel to ask whether the breakfast could be gluten free, since I am allergic. The hotel emailed me back to confirm that a gluten free breakfast could be provided and asked that I remind them prior to the reservation. Two weeks before the reservation, I emailed them to remind them of the gluten free breakfast, to which they replied that gluten free was not an option, period. As I had already purchased the voucher, I decided to bring my OWN food since I read that the hotel had mini refrigerators. The hotel also advertised that it had all modern facilities, including blowdryers, etc. Finally, the hotel emailed me to confirm that the guided tour would be conducted in both English and in Italian. When we arrived at the hotel, we were very surprised to learn that there was no one at the hotel who understood English, French or Spanish, contrary to the email correspondences. The woman who runs the place speaks only Italian, and her solution to the language barrier was to speak louder and faster at us. In addition, we learned that the rooms did not have refrigerators, or blow dryers or anything else modern. The woman in charge reluctantly let me use a corner of the kitchen refrigerator for my food. We then learned that the "guided tour" was, in fact, a marketing ploy that did not take us anywhere except a room of the hotel where they sold their products. It was all in Italian, there was not a word of English, and we were not shown anything outside of the hotel! This was a total scam. In addition, the facilities, themselves, were very gross. The shower was so covered in mold that we had to keep the door closed and would just run in and out as needed in order to avoid the terrible smell. Further, because no one could understand English (contrary to what they had indicated in the email), we were left completely on our own to figure out how to get dinner, etc. There is not a single restaurant or store in that town, and we had to drive around for over an hour before we could find anything. Finally, the bedrooms are placed right next to a church tower, which begins to loudly ring the bells at 3 am.

Unique and Wonderful stayThere is something magical about staying in an 11th century castle. The fresco's throughout the castle are incredible. Each room tells a different story. Our stay included breakfast which was the typical European style breakfast which includes lots of cakes, cookies, juices and coffee They will gladly provide you with some cold cuts and sliced cheese upon your request. If you are gluten intolerant bring your own bread and they will gladly toast it for you. Also included a tour of property along with some wine tasting and some samples of their home made products like jams and cold cuts. Keep in mind that this is a sampling tour and not an all you can eat buffet. We totally enjoyed our unique and wonderful stay.

Sleeping in a fancy castleCastello di Frassinello is a XVIII noble residence once home of the Nemours Counts. It's a fascinating place, yet a little decadent which adds even more charm to it. Surrounded by a honour courtyards and a garden, very plesant in the warm days. Rooms are large and beds comfortable, breakfast was kind of poor but this is the only lack we could find. Don't expect a five star hotel service, even if we are talking of a castle, this is a no frills accommodation at budget price. We've been here in May while touring by bicycle across the Monferrato, and we were able to safely store them for the night in a closed room.

Castello di frasinelloA nice place to stay but no one seems to know anything. No English is spoken and no one seems to try. Your basically on your own. We arrived on a Monday night and nothing was open for dinner. No one told us where to go they just shrugged their shoulders at us. We eventually drive to Alessandria to find a drink and meal. Magical place but as I said you are on your own. Also in summer the rooms are so hot, not a ctritisism but observation.

Exceptional service found in a magical location! From before we arrived the wonderful Alice was doing everything possible to make our stay a special one. Informing us that theres is not a lot of places to eat in Monferrato sowe visited a supermarket and purchased supplies, breads, cheeses, tomatoes, salami, ham, olives, biscuits, juice and of course wine! The breakfast prepared for us by Alice was a beautiful simple Italian style that was more than adequate that we enjoyed in the shade under the trees in the garden. Idyllic! My partner, mother, father and I all loved this slow start each morning soaking up the summer mornings. We were there to try to find long lost family in the region but had no idea where to start. Within 5mins of checking in with Alice she had helped us connect us with all the right people. She is an amazing young woman who so generously helped us find what we were looking for and make our stay exceptional. We were all in awe of the beauty of the 1000yr old Castello we were fortunate enough to be staying in. The Castello is very quiet and at the end of the day we sat on the balcony overlooking a magnificent panorama of 12 villages laid out across the countryside. Drinking our wine listening to the cicadas buzzing, doves cooing, roosters crowing and the bells randomly ringing out from the church tower on the hot balmy Sunday afternoon. We then strolled down the street to the local pub for dinner. It serves beautiful food, including a dessert Bunet that my Nona made and wed not had for many years. It can be very busy so it is a good idea to book. We very much hope to get back there to visit some day. Thank you so much to Alice for our wonderful stay.
