Another world, facing the ocean.Everybody knows luxury hotels, their comfort and services. This one is absolutely perfect. But there is another special feature for Castel Clara : staff is not only warmful, it's better than that. Everybody in the hotel is spontaneous and natural, all your wishes are considered in the most natural and efficient maner. You feel as if you were at home. Evething is pleasant and easy. Very often upperclass hotels staff behavior in France is rigid, almost mechanical and unpersonal. Not at Castel Clara : thank you very much! Food is upper class, landscape is breathtaking, there is simply nothing to say but : Go and make your mind!

Wonderful stayWe stayed in July - a family of 5 - and it was great. The room was really nice, and the kids had their own room upstairs (both of our rooms had ocean view). The staff was really friendly and helpful, and our kids loved. The 2 pools were perfect, and we also rented bicycles at the hotel for short trips and the tenniscourt. The restaurants at the hotel are also for kids, and the breakfast is amazing! A very French place - and a place that you will want to retur to.

excellent stay in this beautiful placewe were staying in the suite Grand Large which is superb, and refurbished. Do not stay on the older rooms which are really old fashioned. Excellent view, the staff is really nice and the restaurant is of really high quality. I wonder why there is still not any Michelin star here.

TOURIST TRAP - does not deserve to be part of Relais&Chateaux. We spent 6 nights in this hotel after spending 9 nights in Relais&Chateaux's Le Domain de Rochevillaine and 7 nights in Relais&Chateaux's Manoir de Lan Kerellec. Unfortunately, the Castel Clara does not offer the level of service and comfort expected of a Relais&Chateaux. I cannot recommend this hotel. The Positive: location and view. The Negative: 1. the food is terrible: A. the breakfast is like a summer camp canteen (compared to the refinement of Rochevillaine); B. the gourmet restaurant is not good - we returned our main dish (over salted cod) and the tables around us complained about this same dish; C. the Seafood buffet is substandard (just compare the quality of the oysters with those of Rochevillaine). Rochevillaine is only 20 kilometers away how is it possible that there be such a difference in the quality of the seafood ! 2. the Bar - we returned our cocktails which were undrinkable. Please hire a real bartender. We did find a couple of good restaurants: AO and Le Desirade.

A Relais & Chateaux ImposterMy husband and I stay at Relais & Chateaux properties as they basically line up to our standards. This hotel however offers nothing of the usual speciality one would expect. The hotel is in dire need up updating, the breakfast service is well below standard - the paper towels they serve are ones that you might find in a gas station bathroom. There are no mini-bars - they can deliver one to sit in your room (first one was a dusty old relic and did not work), the safety deposit box is not secured to a wall - one could simply walk off with it, the carpets are stained, the balcony table is stained, never cleaned. We stayed during the COVID crisis and came back from dinner to find a sweaty man putting towels in our room who wore his mask around his neck (and we had asked that no one enter the room). The toilet room was so small that you could not shut the door unless you squeezed in and turned around. My husband is 6ft, so his knees hit the door. I made the reservation early in March for a August stay and spoke directly to the hotel manager, booked a superior ocean view - had to ask for a confirmation two times, when it finally arrived in July - they had booked a standard ocean view and told me that they had nothing else available. We would have left but they impose a five night minimum and insisted they would charge us. Plus we could not find a ferry opening for our car. The entire experience was a disaster. Several people around us were also complaining of the standards. You would probably be okay if you travel with small children as there were plenty screaming at the pool and in the restaurants. The island itself, Belle Ile en Mer, is fabulous - it's a pity Relais & Chateaux do not have a proper hotel in such a beautiful place.
