Overpriced and disappointingMy wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in July and overall felt it absolutely wasnt worth the price we paid (480). For a 4-star hotel, we felt it to be sorely lacking. The breakfast was ok - the porridge was cold and the cereals and juices tasted really processed. We also had to ask to move tables at breakfast as we were uncomfortably close to another table and were worried for Covid reasons (I am immunocompromised and my wife has asthma). The pillows in the bedroom were incredibly flat and uncomfortable. The room was dated (of course it has a period feel overall, which we usually love, but not at the expense of comfort) with shabby decor and peeling paint. The bathroom was extremely disappointing - the shower head was so high and the water such a thin trickle that it was almost impossible to wash. The water was either cold or scalding, no in between. While I of course understand hotels have had to make changes due to Covid, they had removed almost everything from the room - no toiletries, no tea and coffee making facilities, no robes, blankets etc. I understand the removal of the latter but we couldnt understand why a kettle couldnt be wiped down by staff just the same as light switches, surfaces etc presumably are. Similarly surely fresh toiletries could be provided for each new guest. A Covid notice was provided stating that these items had been removed from the room for safety reasons and if we required any of them, to call reception. The two evenings we were there, we called reception and asked for tea for two, which was delivered to the door (a teapot, hot water and two cups, nothing extra). On checkout, I was paying a male staff member who tried to charge me for two afternoon teas on top of the 480 room charge. I queried this, and explained that (as directed) we called reception for tea as it had been removed from the room. He agreed to remove the charge from the bill, but insisted that while tea and coffee in the room was free, afternoon tea room service had a charge. I politely pointed out that there was no tea and coffee available in the room and the notice said to call reception for this instead! He repeated himself several times and acted as though he was doing me a favour by removing the charge - we left with a very bad taste in our mouth and felt we had been ripped off, paying almost 500 for a mediocre at best two nights. We felt it was important to spend money in Ireland this year to help the struggling hospitality sector but this really wasnt worth it! Wouldnt recommend!

not up to expectationsYhe Blue Book hotels are renowned for being very good, and very expensive! This hotel was ordinary and poor value for money. A view of the sea is critically important as the surrounding trees inhibit the views. I hated them and wished I could see the landscape. The garden is somewhat neglected and overgrown. No tea or coffee in room.( nor soaps) We were told 'ask anytime, we will bring it up'. we did ask once. just for 2 cups of tea, no eats. later we discovered the cost was astronomical, ridiculous. we were really disappointed in the whole stay. We will not return.

Lovely place with Filipino staffVery nice hotel in a nice area of Connemara, close to Roundstone and Clifden. We stayed three nights and enjoyed the meals. The all-Filipino staff were very nice. The hotel apparently has something called Zoono sprayed everywhere to protect against Covid. The pressure in the shower was really bad, this happens at older hotels. We bought a bottle of Champagne at the hotel for 75 euro, turns out same bottle costs 20 Euro in the local Aldi. In all we paid just under 1300 Euro for three nights.
