Fantastic! We spent 5 days at Finca Casa Amarilla. A great place to disconnect and enjoy the peace and quiet atmosphere. And yes, the property is literally located in the middle of a banana plantation, which adds a really nice touch to the place. We could hear nothing but the wind in the palm leaves and the birds singing. Peaceful and exactly what we were looking for, to disconnect from the everyday city noise we have back home. The Casa has a real nice old classic mood with old pieces of art and decorations brought here during the colonial times. Staying here is a time-travel in a way if you like. Arriving here is quite impressive as well, finding our way to the gate through the narrow high-walled road into the midst of the plantation, where the house is located. We were met with a smiling Carlos who led us to the room. No other guests in sight. We felt we were the only once visiting, which gave us another minor first impression thrill in this old colonial, yet well preserved home. We received room number 1, which we believe is the biggest one in the house. It has two huge rooms, and a spacious bathroom. Everything in classical style. Please see pictures below of what view met us by arrival. BUT, there is a big BUT! And a thing we believe Carlos should take care of. And that is the odour and smell in the rooms. In our nr 1 for sure. A smell which, if you are used to moist and ageing houses, will not bother you, but did indeed bother us to a certain degree. We even did consider shortening the stay to just that one night. It is certainly a sign of mildew and mold within the walls etc. Even the sofa was not feeling dry thanks to that. Having old furniture of course also brings all kinds of old odours/smells. You can argue it is a part of the experience, but there are ways to fix these kind of things. So that was quite a bummer as a first impression, despite the fantastic place it is. And luckily we were not planning to stay in the room during the days, so we decided to stay, because even the most critic and sensitive noses can get used to certain levels of unpleasent odours obviously.:) But Carlos, still we recommend to consider a check. We enjoyed the rest of the stay very much. The breakfast was ok, nice little touch with the friendly ladies offering hot meals through an open glass window. The restaurants close-by are not many. It's better to take the car the 7-10 minute drive to Garachico. There you can find several charming places to eat. AND if you like to swim, the natural lava pools in Garachico are really worth visiting. It became our favourite place to get a fresh dip. The weather on this side of the island is not as sunny as in the south, so be prepared. Wind and clouds in May did make us put on additional layers of clothing. In general we recommend the Finca Casa Amarilla if you like to escape from tourist crowds and disco noise, and simply just enjoy silence, style and atmosphere. Service here is great. Always with a smile and a no problem attitude.
