    Sweet & elegant

We booked a room here on New Years Eve so as not to have to drive home after a party in the nearby suburbs. We almost cancelled when I looked at the reviews here --even the Motel 6 had a higher rating. But it turned out to be perfect, while in a rather odd location for such elegant decor (next to a freeway, hotdog joint, etc.) This hotel would cost 2-3x as much if were located in Monterey or a more touristy destination. Pros: very clean, friendly staff, elegant lobby, doors & hallways, small hotel, free breakfast, marble bathroom, jacuzzi tub, flat screen tv, small refrigerator & coffee maker in room, quiet, got completely dark, and was exactly the right temperature with no heat or fan on Cons: A little worn around the edges, bed was soft but we slept fine, in our room a the ottoman was stained and some wood near door could use a new coat of paint, odd location, with freeway intersection right there no where easy to take a U-turn if you are headed the other way (we were but took the freeway instead).

    Heaven On Earth

The Carlyle is an iconic upper east side destination - this was true well before the documentary Always at the Carlyle came out. From the beautiful stylish lobby, through the cozy elevator lobby where the elevator operators in their uniforms are found quietly chatting between trips, up to the gallery where we sat around like sultans on pillows drinking afternoon peaches and ginger tea, we were overwhelmed by our time at the Carlyle. Our room (1910) was along the hallway to the very end - a very comfortable and quiet room, fully appointed with things that screamed luxury. The bathroom is all mirrors (so prepare yourself) and if you dont set an alarm, you may not wake up timely the next morning because the bed is so comfortable. My husband mentioned to the front desk (the lovely Stephanie) that it was my birthday and when we came back to the room after tea there were 3 pretty balloons and a piece of delicious cheesecake! Our rate also included continental breakfast the next day - which was just enough food (yogurt with fruit, more peaches and ginger tea, 2 croissants with butter and jam and juice). Unfortunately we had to run out for appointments the next day so we didnt get to enjoy our stay all the way to check out time (noon - what a treat) but next time - oh next time Hotel Carlyle, youre going to have a hard time kicking us out. With all this you are probably wondering what it cost - let me just say when we opened the bill, we were shocked. We spent more for a night at the Third Ave Marriott in November. And the Carlyle bill included the high tea for us both - a splurge at $55 each (next time well go ala carte because we didnt finish all the sandwiches, scones and treats). We will go back here - and hopefully many times. Thanks for a fantastic birthday trip Carlyle Hotel. Weve fallen in love.

    Fancy and stylishly comfortable

I do business trips quite often, and have been really enjoying the difference in hotels. This one is definitely one of my top 5! I will be booking with them again for future trips. Staff was super friendly, service was great, and my room was very clean and organized.

    dirty, no response from management

I cannot believe what they charge per night to stay at this dump. This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Dirty towels with hair shavings on them, dirty and stained bed sheets, found e-cig cartons in a non-smoking room, stains on tub, something in there caused an allergic reaction and I had to take an anti-histamine. I have been trying to contact the manager for over a week and no response. He is obviously avoiding me as his front desk tell me he's busy in a meeting and when the agency i booked through calls them, they are told he's not in the building. Please let this place run out of business. It is terrible.

    Stylishly Comfortable

Visiting relatives In the area and chose the Carlyle based on reviews and location. Found the staff to be friendly and helpful ( Jenny and Desiree are especially awesome!). The hotel is clean and beautifully decorated. The room was spacious and well furnished., the bed very comfortable. My only negatives were the difficulty getting to and from the hotel. Traffic is very heavy in front and it is very hard to access the hotel or the freeways without driving around. Thank goodness for WAZE! Also, the slider in my room connected to a large patio that was shared by other rooms and had a large hose tangled on it. It all looked and felt unsafe.
